Some Jap Saloons do too, but i'd say 95% don't.

no doubt its simply down to cost and design as most saloons it would look ugly on and ford being too tight to conceal it in a nice way

Boot lids meet the glass on most saloons with no body metal in between, so you can only mount the wiper (and motor) through the glass because the boot lid moves up and down. I guess this causes issue when it comes to space, manufacturing, cost or something along those lines

Didn't some 90s saloon Civics or Accords have them?

Cars look more sleek and aesthetically more pleasing without more than likely.

Japanese Domestic Market saloon cars are required to have them by law. The old grey import imprezas, lancers, integras, etc will all have wipers on the back.

Partly aesthetics, partly aero, but comes down to saloon vs. hatchback...

Hatchback obviously much flatter at the rear screen & a higher roofpoint vs. the wheelbase so draws a lot more water & dirt down the rear window with airflow. Saloon has shorter screen & the angle of c-pillars draws the air over it & predominantly deposits water/silt down the sides rather than dragging down the screen like a hatch, so much harder for water to settle under resistance anyway...
