Default VW PD TDi sump change?

Anyone done one, just servicing dad's golf for him and the sump plug pulled the thread out with it on the way out!! bastard aluminum sumps.

How do you get to the 2 sump bolts on the box side that are hidden? surely not a box off job?!

Hi mate ive removed loads of these over the years they are fairly easy to get off there are 2 or 3 bolts through the gearbox bell housing which are a bit fiddly you will need a long ball ended allen key socket for those. Alternatively we used to get them helicoiled when i worked at audi no sump removal required.Hope this helps

On some the 2 or 3 through the bell housing there are two notches on the flywheel when you turn the engine over by hand you will see them line up with the bolts.

Ive never had to take a sump off one of these for the plug threads, ive prob helicoiled over 30 of them.

Simply down to bad maintenance. over tightening the threads.
