Mk2 Escort - easiest engine transplant?
I have a mk2 with a 1.6 crossflow and would like to change the engine for a Ford unit from a modern model. I thought about a Zetec unit but after looking at the price of a fitting kit it would be cheaper to buy a Cosworth engine and fit it instead.
The pinto is an easy swop but its an old engine, not as easy to get hold of and not as efficiant or powerful as a more modern engine.
I dont want to have to fabricate mounts, sump etc so I would like to fit a Ford engine that has some of these parts readily available.
Im not after an engine that can be moddified to put out mega horse power so I would consider the Mk5/6 RS2000 engine if it could be fitted using the injection system and some after market parts.
Throttle boddies and fancy ignition systems are not an option due to cost.
Can anyone recommend the best engine to fit and the cheapest way to fit it?
Cheers
Kenny

not a ford engine but more bang for your bucks imo...thought about a vauxhall 2.0 redtop? friend of mine put one into an 100e a couple of years back and did'nt take that much work.
went like the clappers too!
engine approx £200 -£400
megasquirt approx £250ish
bike carbs £50 - £100ish
rolling roaded at 180bhp so for less than a grand id say it was well worth it!

I put a N/A cossie in mine which was reasonably straightforward. The problems I had were with fitting the T5 box which required a bit of fabrication. Mine had the Cossie sump so i had to cut and weld the crossmember so It sat in there OK. If you use a RS2000 sump on it and a rocket box it should be easy enough. Use pinto engine mounts

Cossie engines go in easily, but its not the cheapest conversion due to demands. Probably the most tuneable choice though.

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
Chip is selling a xe on here
Bike carbs
Megasquirt
Cams
Steel rods
Pocket pistons ect
You would just need a manta sump and some mounts from somewhere like old ford autos
Bargain as the ecu is already mapped

No torque to the S2000. Seen a couple in rally cars, not too clever up hills.
