Gripper Diffs & MOTs
Well the old banger is due a MOT next week
I have not had a MOT since fitting the Gripper Diff.
Can it be tested on the brake rollers as im sure they turn one wheel backwards and the other forwards when doing the brake test ? I don't want my diff £ucked up.
Any advice ?
Steve

I've never had a problem with mine on the brake rollers only issues when they try get it off they normally go pale and ask me to move it about afterwards.
I had one mot test done where they had an above ground 4poster it was wet out and the tester didnt want me to put it on even tho I offered - it spun up an was sideways in the ramp he asked me to move it afterwards and I told him no cos he parked it.

My MOT man carries out a "visual" braking test.
Eg.. Drive across the car park and brake hard.
Not sure how kosher this is but he always asks what kind of diff it is then says "Ahh we best not stick it on the brake test rollers then."

ask for it to be done on a tapping meter thats what i do as its almost a locked diff so i dont wont them damaging it spinning one wheel up at a time i can only imagine the racket it would make trying lol

any kind of limited slip diff shouldn't go in the rollers for the brake test, the tapley meter is used instead
Torsen and quaife diffs don't seem to cause any trouble, as they behave like a normal open diff when there isn't any power through them
and a welded diff is a definate no no in the rollers

I'm with mk2 cossie,I didnt think anything with a slip diff should go on rollers for a brake test. The guy who used to do my cosworth used to take it down the road for a brake test.

As the presenter of a vehicle for MOT it is advisable to make the Tester aware of ANY modifications that you feel may affect the way an MOT is to be carried out.
A welded diff or even a heavily locked diff will certainly require the use of a Decelerometer - which is no hassle or fuss for the MOT station as this is a calibrated and accepted piece of test equipment and is a compulsary item of test equipment to be available to carry out an MOT
There are many types available but this is what they will look like (or similar) usually used for permanent 4 wheel drive vehicles

I've spoken to Tom Seal@gripper and he has said its not a problem for the mot it's not on the rollers long so the plate wear will be min and when the wheel stops it will engage the diff and lock up but by that point the test would be finished.
A welded diff is different tho.
I've had my diff for over 10years and never had an issue with mots.

Lol @ the rollers going in different directions, where on earth did you get that info from?
Its obviously not just cock you smoke, it must be drugs too.
As RS2000CUSTOM has said, a decelerometer can be used when a car is too low to test or has an LSD, thats what I always get them to do on my cars that have LSDs in them.

In northern ireland all cars go down the brake rollers. 4x4 are done 1 wheel at a time. The only car that doesnt have to is one with wire wheels because the rollers will wreck them and they get the tapley meter. welded diff throws the trip on the rollers and is not a tapley meter test its a fail. All cars with lsd are tested on rollers too.
