help with slicks?
Hi folks I intend to get the mini to some 1/4 mile events this year and if I want to get any decent times I'm gonna have to get some slick tyres, I've got some 13x7inch wheels I need to know what compound to use and what's the biggest tyre I can get on a 7inch rim, sorry for my stupidity but I've never used slicks before.
The tyres I've got at the moment are 195x45 profile and I was hoping to get some slicks which are a similar profile to fit under my arches.
Thanks in advance for your help, hope to see some of you at the strip.
Cheers andy.

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
to be honest you tyre size is crucial as alters your gearing massively.you really need to work out you diff ratio and gearing.the reason being if you choose to0 big a size you will probably only just get into 4th gear, and too small you will be need =ing to snatch 5th and this makes a big diference,Ideally you want to be crossing the line at the top end of your revs in 4th

Ask over on turbominis.co.uk, they'lll have more experience with 13" tyres etc.
Using a steel wheel or alloy makes no difference whatsoever.
But seeing as you're 4wd and relatively light, I really wouldnt be wasting huge sums of money of drag slicks. It really will make very little difference over a decent grippy tyre.
You will have no difficulty making superb 60ft times even on 888's etc and traction should not be a concern
And some drag slicks may require a burnout and some heat to actually work in the first place. So may actually be a backward step.
If they're available, something like a super soft hillclimb slick tyre would be a good compromise and work from stone cold.

Out of interest....who's best to buy the likes of the Dunlop CR311 tyres from ?
Seeing as they're E marked etc...quite fancy trying some for some local racing on airfield etc. The drag tyres are decent, but Ive a feeling these would work better

Its rwd not 4wd hence the reason I'm having some trouble getting all the power down, the plan is to get a set of steelies make up to put on when I get to the strip.
I'm starting to think of just using some old race slicks, which you can get of ebay cheep then I can get the profile I need to fit under the arches as drag slicks tend to be a lot higher profile.
Regards andy..

My bad, I thought it was a 4wd conversion.
Used slicks would be a good budget option, but ideally something intended for hillclimb etc use as they will be very soft.
But pretty much any drag radial will work very well. In some ways almost better than a full slick.

Ok mate thanks, let me know what you've got, its the profile I'm struggling with because my arches hug the wheels quite tight. I can go 7 / 8 / 9inch wide if I like.
