Default Fitting harnesses - whats best

I'm about to start fitting a set of 5 point harnesses. Having previously fitted 3 point harnesses to a different car, I used two seat belt mounts for the lap part of the harness and the rear seat belt mount for the harness part

My current car only has one seat belt mounting point for the lap belt (other part was attached to the original seat), and for the rears, I have two straps rather than the one I had before.

Hows best for me to fit them. I assume I'll need to weld a plate to the centre tunnel for the lap belt, a plate to the floor for the crotch strap, and two plates to the rear for the harness part?

Should I weld a plate for both sides of the lap part? Should I tap the plate, or use a nut? And what thickness plates should I use.

Sorry for the long winded description for whats essentially a simple job

why not bolt a plate to the floor with the ring eye welded to the plate

saves burning the paint and repainting

I'm not worried about that

Cheers. Would prefer to weld them inside though if possible

Drill a hole big enough for nut then fit plates on inside of vehicle with nuts into hole.

Never thought of that. Makes perfect sense though. Cheers

Check the fitting instructions for the shoulder straps as you may find the rear seat belt mounts give the wrong angle. Hence why most modern cages have "harness bars".

as Taycos said, drill hole, use eye bolt with the nut/plates on the outside.

Yeah ideally you want the plate on the outside of the panel so it's trying to pull the plate through the panel rather than pulling the weld off the panel. If you really want the plate on the inside though make one that is much bigger and use at least 3mm thick steel. As has been said already, there's a good chance the shoulder straps are intended for roll cage mounting so check that out also so it all works properly when you most need it.
