I had a new Hyundai recently ix10 I think it was? 1.7 d was ok to drive, loads of toys and felt pretty well made. I wanted to hat it but I couldn't, I averaged 44mpg with a mix of city and motorway driving over a fortnight

We've got a CRV diesel Sport (No idea why they called it a sport as it's a diesel soft roader but a remap took it to 170bhp). Nice to drive and does approx 40mpg round town and nearly 50mpg on a run. There not a full time, go anywhere mud plugger but it was more than capable of getting us about in the snow when we needed to. Seats 5, 6 speed, good spec, with plenty of boot space and even has a picnic table and drinks cooler built in.
They hold there money well and it's less than Ł300 a year to insure for us. I've took it down to Mallorca a couple of times and it was "turn the key and go". Before I had this I had an ML and Cayenne which both were quick and nice but the saving on the running costs of the CRV mean it justifies me buying another toy
Oh and I doubt I'll lose that much money on it when the time does come to sell it unlike some other makes .....
