Rs500 Bare shell
How much is one worth? Considering selling the s1 and freeing up some money to build a 3 door but an rs500 has come up.
Shell is a genuine one and been broke for spares so entirely bare at the moment, been told doesn't need any welding.
Was going to call Paul nyrs in the next couple of days, was just wanting general consensus.

Not 100% but i think one sold for Ł4k but that was some years ago and cars have since become more expensive - if you can get it for under Ł6k then you should be able to build a car using a donor 3dr
Only worth it if youre getting it cheap IMO, remember it will never be a proper 500 again, every rs500 geek will take great delight in telling you that it's not original but I guess you could always break it again later down the line. What paperwork and history does it have? Don't get sucked in to paying a premium price for a glorified 3dr, I'm sure there are better and cheaper shells out there, but if you want to lie in bed at night thinking you have an rs500 then go fo it

Why will it never be a 500 again, a 500 is basically a 3 door with a list of additional parts, if the 500 shell is built up with all the unique parts then it will be spot on, even if a few are missing it will still be a 500 as its chassis number will dictate. Just not easy getting the parts, if you had a hpi recorded 3 door or a good rep to break then it may pan out, but some of the 500 bits will take a lot of effort to find. Would be a good project If you have the time, just don't change the colour of the original shell, and make sure you use a small core 205 block to build the engine,
Because youre kiding yourself if you think it'll be worth heaps for starters, even cars like this that are not original don't make big money and it's probably got alot more 500 parts on it than this shell ever will have again.

So you buy a shell with ID, what about the other premium priced parts you need to get to go with the shell to make it even 50% of the car it's suposed to be, and it'll still be known to be a car that was broken and probably had poor history before hand (hence why it was broken).
What are you essentially buying at the end of the day, a 3dr shell that has a slightly different number and it says rs500 on the V5, I'm not saying I wouldn't buy it, only that I wouldn't be getting a semi and parting with all my hard earned cash when I could go and get a 3 dr and put on aftermarket spoilers/bumper for probably less than half the price.
Each to their own, I hope the seller gets their asking price and the buyer is happy with their "Rs 500".

Shell with ID is the easy thing to find in relative terms, its all the other parts that you will be outbid on every time by an existing owner wanting spares or going back to standard.
Your competing with wealthy people for all the parts you will need, no RS500 parts bargains on ebay any more
Circa 4 to 5k for the ID though, original shell is just a bonus.
Better off building it up as a top notch high spec car rather than aiming for the big bucks standard car values that everyone sees.
Still cost you more in the end though than buying an existing one like Ash has for sale above.
