formatting an xbox hard drive
just put a large one in the xbox and been given the old std 8gb one back so ive connected it to the pc, the bios recognises it ok (primary slave), windows detects it as new hardware and installs it BUT windows wont read or display the drive.
i guess this is because its formatted for an xbox?
how can i format this if i cant get windows to display it?

and UNLOCK the drive ... then take it out... and you can connect it too any pc...
the XBOX locks the harddrive with a code... that why you cant access it

ranj,
Fdisk doesn't work because you cant access the drive because its locked ..meaning you need to enter a 128 bit encrypted security password to access it.. and the xbox does enter the code on startup .. your pc won't... so you can't format/delete/access it.
I thought LOCKED was a nice clear english word
well I assume you have it chipped... if it is with X3 .. then you access the bios and go to disk tools.. there is an unlock option there..
connect the hd.. unlock it.. take it out.. and its usable on the pc again..
have fun
