Default Dump Valves

Ive already got a dump valve but i want a second one!
My one i have got at the moment is on the charge carrier and the samcos ive got have got the piece for the dump valve on it but just with a black piece in it.
If i cut into my dump valve piping that comes out of the top of it and put a T-piece in will i be able to use the pair of them?
what will this do will I gain or lose anything out of doing this?
or will it just remain the same.

Get rid of the 1st one mate. The way the fuel injection system works on these cars mean they don't like dump valves. You can suffer with idling and stalling problems with one fitted. Best thing I did was to lose mine. I now use it as a paper weight at work

In a nut shell mate, No. If you change gear quickly the DV doesn't even have time to react. Take it off and file it away in your garage somewhere. Unless you are running daft boost there is no need for you to have one. If you lose all the pressure in the system potentially you will have to wait longer for it to boost up as the pipes and intercooler will all need to be filled with air and that air will have to be compressed to the required level before the car will come on boost again

you will come on boost a lot quicker in the next gear if there is no DV and loss of pressure to atmosphere. take yours off and give it a try!

TAKE YOUR DUMP VALVE OFF AT YOUR OWN RISK

I just killed my turbo by taking the dump valve off after listening to such advice !!!!!

Happened between gear changes. !!!

It bent the shaft and it was a roller bearing turbo too.

Getting a bigger turbo now !!!

Simon as far as RST's go thats complete bollocks

We're talking RST's here, they left Ford without a DV. The Escort Cossie actually left Ford with one fitted. Not having one on an RST is of no consequence whatsoever.

what turbo did you have tho secs?

im guessing his S2 has a standard T3 on and not enough boost to bring it into danger!

How large and/or what boost pressure was being run. Are the turbo people just using that as a cop out to get out of sorting it?

Oranoco,
Didnt realise it was an RST.
But the standard cars only ran tiny boost so didnt need them.

It is just my advice and opinion from my experiences !

It ran an copy of a Turbo Dynamics MD240

(2 bar of boost by 3500 rpm)

Obviously needed a dumper at that boost pressure but a WELL KNOWN
tuner said to me "take it off, you dont need it".

A week later it was dead.

GT30 here we come

2 bar is 29psi mate and that's at the level where I am lead to understand that a DV is required.

agreed - that is some serious boost. opinions vary as when one is needed but IMO safety comes first when you using that level of boost!

I guess this is one of those debates that everybody will have a different opinion.

After my experience I certainly will fit one but I hate them !!!!

How can you hate a dump valve Simon? Just put a recirculating one back in if you dont like the noise!

You will get no benefits at all from a second dump valve.

You may get some benefits from removing yours though, or better still put a resitrictor in the pipe that T's off for it so that although it works it only leaks a small amount of pressure, taht way the intercooler wont totally depressurise but it will still help protect the blades.

You are aware are you that if you remove all the resistance to the turbo by excessively large dump valves, that it can allow the turbo to overspin and go to fast which can lead to damage?

SECSs wasnt a T4, was some rollerbearing job, and on a BB cored turbo id use one as so far experience shows they weak as fuck.

Dumpvalves are a waste of time in most cases.

And 2 DVs are likely to give you LESS noise than 1, as the pressure is shared then.

Ive tried it too When i had my first reno5 i had a DV (1998, they were COOL then, not 2005 ) and then we fitted 2, made no difference, maybe slightly quieter, so for a laugh we put another one on we had lying around, that deffo made it quieter than 1.

Id never fit one unless needed, as chatters far better.

I cant decide wether to risk running without them on my GTR as its gonna be running silly boost
My main thing about running them isnt that i dont like the noise, im worried theyl be rising slightly from their seat at full boost, ie leaking slightly, i think its FAR more common than you think, and will overspeed the turbo like fuck and lose you power even if its same boost.

Ok, I'm chatting shit because you have to add a box of electronic tricks to make a dump valve work properly on an Escort RS Turbo
