He was lucky to get away with that, he should've got charged ALOT more for having "M3 mirrors" on anything but an m3.......
Was it a Vauxhall by any chance?

I got hit up the arse, in my old runabout, not my fault, the insurance tried not to pay out because it had a k&n filter on it.

If the insurance companys did not take the piss so much with modded cars Id say most would be honest about it ,Like when I did the mg-b they asked for photos and mainly the uprate of brakes and suspention once id got the spec they wanted they said no prob would be nice if more companys were like this.

With regards to pleading ignorance, it won't work, my mate was driving my car on the third party bit of his insurance, he'd renewed that week and they removed third party cover without telling him, to keep the cost down!

Got pulled, copper said it was a genuine mistake, then was a right knobber and said we looked suspicious and so on and so on. Advised car wasn't taxed or insured at all!

Went to court, showed the judge my insurance, receipt for the tax disc etc. he was sympathetic as it happened to loads of people with that ins conpany. Hegave my mate a Ł15 fine, but min points by law was 6 Points and his final word was that 'ignorance is not an excuse in the eyes of the law'

Heres a good one

he might be a bit OTT with the power but "THIS CAR THE BHP IS 350+"

"STILL REGISTERED AS A 1.0 CHEAP INSURANCE"

so only about 8 times the original power output

The Dvla are not likely to do anything as they are so far removed from cars other that clamping untaxed vehicles and it's the same with insurance companies and modified cars. They only get involved through third party assesors who rarely assess anything properly.

It's the Police who ultimately have to deal with the folk who swap their engines over and with a little investigation can find out if their modified cars are properly insured. If they are not then they have the right to sieze the vehicle at the roadside.

People who are driving in modified cars that haven't been declared to the insurance companies in my opinion are as bad as the scum who drive around without any insurance, as technically they are not insured.
