skimming pressure plate, yay or nay
basically i've had clutch slip over 17psi on my zetec turbo, flywheel is mint, 6 paddle is fine, no distorted wear on the paddles.
however the pressure plate/cover was second hand as i couldn't afford a new one, so got a SH one, i've taken it off and the inner is more worn that the outer, but at most this is 0.2mm across the whole face.
i know it'll clamp fine as clutches wear far more than this before they hit the rivets, but can the cover be skimmed/machined easily?
heard that it can be done, but could be costly.
has anyone had this done?
if it wasn't a FRS AP cover i'd just get another, but they are expensive when i've had to buy another turbo this week too
cheers

only one way to find out but contact looks so much better.
if it doesn't work then i'll have to save some pennies and get a new setup.
the cover hadn't done many miles to be fair, engine was on 28k and had only been changed a couple of k before i bought it.

A decent clutch refurb place should be able to install a new friction surface ( if you can find one who will be bothered )
If you machine some off it, you can restore clamping pressure by machining a corresponding amount off where the cover bolts onto the flywheel. It'll just mean the flywheel now has a slightly raised friction surface.
Before doing any work though you should have the cover tested to see at what installed height it offers the most clamping pressure and then aim for that

they also machined the same 10thou off the mating edge, that wasn't so hard as it's alloy.
it's all fitted up now, just need to see how it handles, but took forever to get the bloody box back on!
