Default How does this vernier work?

So, Kent adjustable vernier has turned up tonight, but on looking at it............... it doesnt really seem adjustable

I can see the markings, but the bolts have no elongated bits on them, so how does that adjust?

- Loosen the hex studs.
- Put one hand on the blue metal, other hand on the grey metal at the back.
- Twist!
- Profit!!?!?

FYI, the blue bit is clamped to the cam shaft, and has a keyway so cannot move. the black outer part that the cam belt locates on can be rotated clockwise/counter clockwise a bit by slackening the 5 cap heads as stated.

The black bit wont be will it, thats the part thats threaded, they wouldnt have much of a hold to the bolts if they were slotted, lol

Remove one bolt and the blue part should be slotted so the timing can be moved. Im sure the bolts are covering the slots.

I think it was due to the "covers" on the allen bolts that I couldnt see the slots. Not exactly muppet material............

I think it would have been much easier to remove one of ther allen bolts to see what was below,

much easier then taking two pictures, uploading them, starting a thread regarding pulleys and waiting for replies, most of which were taking the piss

It only needs to adjust half a tooth's worth because it you go that far in one direction and it's not enough you can move the belt on by a tooth and start again with it all the way in the other direction.

Personally I don't like that style as I've seen them slip too often. Quaife do the pin type and they are often cheaper than those things tend to fetch second hand on fleabay.

there is no reason why once its set you cant drill a hole and dowl one of the adjusting arms to ensure that it will not slip in use

or even if you cant dowl it, just nut and bolt it.
