sorry buddi im only a computer newbee and forum neew bee too...
ta for putting the pic up..
whats the views of the stance and rim size and achieveability..
im going low on my mk3 estate once the body work is tidyed up next month
..
at the moment all i can achieve is 40mm at the back and 50mm at the front with pi springs...
if i can find a way and advice on how to slam the motor this low ill swop the intended 18" st wheels for some banging big rims like in the silhouette pic above..
i doubt just removing the plastic arch liners would be enough..but no doubt some one can advise in more detail i have a few weeks yet to decide the route im taking
i love the slammed street rod look
please advise or ill end up on modest 50mm pi springs and 18" st rims

it maybe an idea to post on one of the vw forums, airbags and massive drops are a big thing with them. i know its a different brand but the principles will be about the same

coilovers at the very least, bump stops removed, arch's rolled, arch liners removed, brake lines checked for enough movement.
Most likely would be best having a sump guard. I had a low passat b5, even on the 19's it was low, took out the sump in the end and made it better to get another car than fix it.

to get it rolling like the silhouette picture, it would need to run on 18s or 19s really, and would have to run airbags to get that much tuck. not driveable at all like that tho
to achieve a look like the photoshopped pic, that would just be, at a guess, 19s and coilovers with a hefty static drop. width and offset and tyre size wise, its really a matter of measuring up. just expect rear arches to scrub the tyres, front wheels to rub everything, and the entire underside of the car to make contact with the road at every bump lol

This was coilovers on 19's. The merc rims was:
fronts - 8.5jx19 with 235/35/19's
rears - 9.5jx19 with 235/35/19's and 10mm spacers
no arch mods on that. You will also find saloons generally have bigger rear archs than a estate will do. You can play around with camber on the rear wheels like the vw boys do but never been a big fan and at that level of drop you will find out you will be on first name terms with most tyre companies in the area and probably have a lot of bump steer when driving on what the government thinks pass as roads.

if im not mistaken tho 19s on a mondeo mk3 have been done many times are there any horror stories out there, may be i could start with the 19" rims on standard ride hight then drop with a more practical spring lowering set...
now ive seen that pic its really gave me the extra inspiration to try and go more than st focous 18s
could do with some help of people with big rims on mk3 mondeos and problems encountered

found these
http://www.dcperformance.co.uk/uprat...rd/mondeo.html
why would i need these and not just pi lowering springs 50mm at front and 45mm at the rear.

coilovers give u adjustment on the ride height, and if u get decent sets u can also adjust the damping too. springs will give u a set drop, so if its too high then tough, and if its too low then tough lol
coilovers is the way to go if u want it sitting like the photoshop, with a drop achieveable with a heavy static drop, but not requiring so much tuck that u need airbags to be involved
this is my current daily estate

thats on 18x9s on the back, and 18x8s on the front, and FK AK coilovers wound down a fair old bit

definately low enough,,may be 1 more inch at the front but im being picky
do you encounter much in the way of sump grinding etc during daily driving

thats exactly why the front of mine has come up a bit more than id like, the diesel sumps just hang way too low and are just way too weak! on a daily basis my plastic undertray gets smashed to bits, my bottom arms smash the floor, my bumper gets stuck on everything, even picking up rubbish from the road. plus my rear arches rub all my tyre shine off lol
im yet to make up a sump guard for it, would buy 1 but its over 200quid for something off the shelf
im not sure about goin another inch at the front tho, theres only 20mm until the fk's are wound all the way to the bottom! maybe 10mm more drop max, any more than that and its just impossible as a daily drive, plus i think iv only got about 10mm before i get the dreaded driveshaft and ARB contact issues

after looking at the blue mondeo on 19s even though they look fine they still dont fill the arch as id like them too.
i am thinking is the silver mk3 gonna need 20s or bigger to achieve the look, as the bill to achieve the look is growing rapidly!!

if u wana go low on 20s, thats gonna start gettin daft and need some fairly extensive fab work for clearance!
19s with a substantial drop will fill the arches just fine dude, plus u remain in the realm of being able to get tyres fairly cheap still, and rim choice is still plenty varied.

Believe me, you really dont want 20's. The ride will be awful and will tramline like a bit.h.
The ride was very harsh on the 19's with 235 35's on it and to drop any further would have meant major suspension and body work. The arches were rolled and inner liners removed but fully loaded would still rub. Moving the 225 18's helped a lot and the ride was a lot better.

20's are an easy fit on the mk3's
if you want air bags, there is a user on here called bassboy who may be able to help as he's got a set up on a few of his motors
i was going to go 20's on mine but comps only do upto a 18 (at the time) so i got them instead

was just doing some sums this afternoon.
is my logical thinking correct... im a novice at this...
from the centre of the front wheel to the top of the arch is 15 inches ( my mondeo estate is standard at the moment)
i figured that a 13" radius would be a 20" with tyre which would then give me a 2" gap to loose with lowering to achieve the look in the picture..
pi make 50mm front and 40mm rear lowering springs (44mm is 2 inches)
50mm is roughly 2"s
thrus removing the need for coil overs...
a 50mm drop is not to major drop and should be driveable with care( i drive like a grandad any way... proberbly cos i am a grandad!!)
dojj has mentioned that 20s on a mk3 are no big deal fitment wise.. please correct me if im wrong..
to me the picture of the slammed mondeo is starting to look financially viable and achievable and drive able

honestly go for coilovers, youl be able to go as low as you want and still have suspension that works, or you could get bored with the sills dragging and have a car that corners brilliantly on the coilys
