Cossie vs M5
Me and a few friends are off to snetterton circuit for track day tomorrow and my mates mate's track car isn't ready so he's bringing his M5.
So which do you think would be faster?
2wd saff cossie 390-400bhp
Or
2005 BMW M5 with remap. Apparently near 600bhp

What's does a saff weigh? 1300kgs?
I most certainly will have fun, its my first proper trackday. I done few on the local airbase but never driven on a proper circuit

MT Mark had an estate version and it looked bloody quick to me and the sound is insane - he did explain just how fast it was and going off what he told me you'd need a bloody quick cossie to keep up - he was comparing it to one of his Cosworth race cars so your average road car is in a different league

if the cossies on 10+yr old shocks and springs a race track dont mix
ive prepped an M5 for track for a customer and they are blistering with peopper suspension.
if it is big power then it may well have a destroyed diff and rear bushes, makes them handle shocking
sod the V10, V8 M5 all the way though

I'd love an E39 M5, but I feel they are just a bit too big & heavy, and I own an E39 530D. I love the way it drives, but... I can't decide if it would be just that bit too big for a track/sports car?

Hey been trying this on a trackday against the E39 M5 V8 engine sleightly up on the OE 400 bhp , claimed about 450-460 and my old 2wd Sapp.approx 300-320 bhp had no trouble keeping up/catching him in ..... he did not know about a Sapp. Cos. as he came to me asking what car it was ... quite surpriced that a old taxi was all over him
No doubt that the weight did it ... but I was quite surpriced that how easy I took him.
Now I dont know Snetterton, corners, straits and so on but still I would say that a Sapp. with near 400 bhp would easy do the E39 ... the E39 just looked sooo heavy around tha track .. so my money is deff. on the sapp

WAY too heavy. I've seen a mate take an E39 M5 on track and it roasted the brakes after less than 5 laps.
Exact same issue with an E92 M3.
I guess the E60 will be the same!

Well I didn't get to find out today because he got there late lol I did try it with a Audi R8 v8 and was having a good go for 3 or 4 laps then on cool down lap the cossie broke :-( The diff started making some funny noises on the slow tight corners it sounded like I had something rolling round in the boot. Luckily I was then coming round the last corner before the pit straight. Then as I pulled up in the pit garage everyone else arrived.
So to all who said the BMW cos it'd drive home are correct lol
