Default Focus st500 rate or hate??

I've decided to buy a focus st to replace my saph, but can't make my mind up between an st-3 and a st500.

Who likes the stripes and red leather??? Other than that there's no difference...

What price are they as tbh of all the focus I'd have a mk1 RS

Imo the st500 looks a bit garish

Don't help you much

I'd have a mk1 frs too but my finance has restrictions tbh so I'm limited to cars < 8 years old and less than group 16 insurance (although they have approved the st which is 17)

The one I'm looking at is Ł9k with 25k miles

I don't see the point of paying extra for red leather and the stripes... if it was the same price as a standard ST3 then I'd consider it though, however, the stripes are pretty bent IMO so they'd be coming off sharpish.

Cheers,
Grant

There are something like 13000 st's made for Britain, and only 500 st500's obviously, I guess I'm keeping an eye on resale value aswell in a few years. Also every 500 that I have phoned up this week has been sold, so they must be desirable??

I had an ST500. The leather is not as bright as it's made out to be in the photos. I took the stripes off and that made the car for me.

The black paint / red leather combo looks really good in the metal.

Resale value of the ST is shite at best, not sure what the 500 is like but the red leather would work for me but get the stripes off. They look better with out them unless they are subtle IMO.

can you get a facelift ST for that money

i'd have one in frozen white, not quite an RS but the ST-3 frozen white with dark wheels looks the nuts and the 5 pot engine is a belter

I think the styling of the facelift is a bit soft. Looks like a Zetec S till you're close up. Still a belting car though.

That they do! I might as well have a hole in my petrol tank the amount I go through town driving.

isnt it very similar to the 2005 cars, just with better looking headlights?

i always thought the first ST's looked a bit soft, though i am partial to electric orange!

Think near all panels are different apart from roof and boot I think.

Horses for courses as they say.

I love the EO colour.

Wouldn't waste your time unless you want stripes and different interior. I keep thinking of buying a black or white ST as I need a bigger car with a nice big boot!

Well I've got some test drives booked to help me decide...

1, mk1 focus rs with bluefin and decat
2, focus st-3 with dreamscience and decat
3, standard rs500

You have to keep a black one clean all the time or else it looks manky. The silver fog surrounds look a bit odd on a black one IMO and look like Dame Edna Everage's glasses.

An ST2 or ST3 if you want leather and a cheeky remap (Bluefin like I have or dreamscience) will give you plenty of grins.

I think it's a mountune upgrade. It's in the drop boxes of on line insurance quotes as its classed as an official ford upgrade from certain dealerships I think. An upgrade package that doesn't effect warranty and ford approved.

I quite like the ST500, I'm sure they'd be worth a few quid more than a normal ST in a few years time.

Some seem to buy halfords badges though so could be that. I might buy a "270 maybe a bit more" badge

Yes it's an open diff, mines in the region of 300bhp and the standard transmission handles it pretty well, mine needs a clutch soonish so thought while it's all in bits, mayy as well get a diff in too.
