Default has anyone had any experience with dash cameras?

im thinking in investing in a dash mounted recording camera.

something similar to this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VIDEO-DASH...65966762938285

has anyone got any experience with these or similar?

im not fussy about the gps and what not that some offer. just mainly vidoe &audio recording.

now my main question is, so they record in, for eg, 15 loops? recording back over the same 15 minutes of footage? or will it continue recording until the memory is full & then start to record over old footage?

thanks in advance

there is nothing illegal about having a recording camera system.

A camera will record only factual evidence. Not bullshit lies made up by other road users, or the police.

So it can only be a good thing.

I have one of these,

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/True-HD-72...ht_3483wt_1134

although it was £40 when I bought it a few months ago. Picture is pretty decent in daylight. Night time would be less use. But that's only to be expected.
It records continuously when 12v power is connected. 32gig card holds approx 9.5 hours.

When this is full it does seem to wipe and start again with a clean card.

Really cant see any downsides.

I originally bought a 32gig Class 4 card off egay for around £30 or so. I managed to lose it, those damn Micro SD's are so small.
Actually found it was far cheaper on Amazon. Got a 32gig Class 10 card for around £25 with a little USB reader included.

Didnt seem to make any difference to quality whether class 4 or class 10 card was used.

because most people will want these for recording driving at speed ect.
if you was gonna drive carefully why would you want to record that, very boring footage as for for recording other drivers, i dont think many want them for that if truth be told.

Bollocks, most people use them for safety. Dad is a driving instructor and has a very similar one - it was around £30 and it's superb. He's caught a couple of accidents on it and clearly shows who is in the wrong.

they are mostly for insurance purposes, not high speed driving antics.

Very common in the USA and insurers offer discounts to fit them.

many public service vehicles have dash cams now and thats not just emergency services either, even council trucks, taxis, delivery trucks etc.

I imagine it wont be long before insurers over here offer discounts for fitting them or perhaps make it compulsory for certain high risk drivers/vehicles.

I have a Smarty BX1500+ (I think that's the model number) and it's on constant record - Has GPS data and google maps overlay on the software too so no bullshit/stories about locations etc in the event of an incident

Nice and discrete - sits behind the rear view mirror and takes SD and HDSD cards upto 32gig .

Also has an inbuilt G-meter for alarms if a certain G is acheived in the X, Y or Z direction axis and this then makes a note on the recording for easy finding later

Im looking to buy one of these in the next few days (sooner the better or il spend the cash on something else )

Its to go in my mk1 xr2 that is in the process of being restored, so i want something quite subtle!!

I was looking at Roadhawk cameras but then someone listed a cheaper alternative!! Theres a £150 difference, is the roadhawk really worth that much more??

Roadhawk;
