Default Mk4 escort ZETEC TURBO conversion.. ECU/wiring?

Ok new winter project.. MK4 escort 2.0 zetec turbo.

Putting in the engine etc is the easy part for me, the part I find hard to understand is what ecu and loom to use, total noob when it comes to electrics.

First off, does the ECU control everything IE engine, clocks, lights, indicators etc, meaning if I where to take the 1.6 ecu and loom out then all the cars wiring would be out and nothing would work? or does the ecu and loom just connect to the engine, rev counter, temp gauge, oil gauge etc etc.

The reason I ask is I was thinking of using 2 ecu`s (keeping the 1.6 ecu and loom in the car) and using another ecu to run the zetec turbo!

If this is possible? how would I go about doing it? what parts of the 1.6 loom would need to be cut out? and what ECU and loom could I use to run the zetec?

I am good at learning/picking things up, I am sure If I had a basic Idea of how this could be done then I could do it, any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

ECU controls the Engine matey. It does this by using sensors all over the engine and the drivetrain.

Your dash clocks will also use these sensors. For example your temp gauge is on the engine, your RPM will take its information from the coil pack or the ECU. Your Speedo will either be a mechanical drive cable from the Gearbox or an electrical sensor in the gearbox.

On a car your age then headlights and indicators are very simple relay driven switched circuits. On more modern cars with CAN bus ECU systems and automatic functions then these can often be integrated into the ECU

Thanks mate appreciate it so with a old skool mk4 escort I could pull out the engine and wiring associated with the engine IE temp, thermo, coil etc and everything else would still work IE lights, indicators, etc?..
so do ya recon I could pull out the cvh and its wires associated with it, and some how use another ecu and part of its loom for the zetec engine to fun?

would a escort or fiesta rs turbo ecu and loom work for a zetec turbo?

Thanks

Keep the old loom for the indicators horn etc. Then make a new loom for the temp sensor, air sensor coil pack, injectors etc. You can use the fiesta ecu on a zetec, or megasquirt, omex will also do the job
