new escort and capri roumors true or false???
Some time ago i was browsing and found a site that said that ford are going to release the capri escort brand new from factory at either old specs or updated specs (modern engines and suspention) is it true or just wishful thinking????
I would love to buy a brand new mk1 or 2 escort but i don t thin ford ll ever reproduce it

They could only do what Vw (Beetle) Bmw (Mini), and Fiat (500) have done.
Produce something that looks similar to the original but meets all of todays crash test specs and safety standards.
Ford will already have looked at doing this and found there that there is no real market for it.
The general population "loved" the old Beetle, Mini and Fiat 500.
Escorts and Capris are "Loved " by a few petrolheads.

Definitely a pipe dream, why produce something from their "back catalogue" when they have a perfectly good range of new cards being made at the moment?
However, I do know there was a Capri concept car shown at frankfurt last year.
http://www.fastfordmag.co.uk/2011/08...cept-unveiled/
Chances of it making production? Like the many many many other Capri concepts before it, not a lot.

I agree in my opinion the focus st1,2,3 and rs are a waste fwd!!! they should have been 4WD and as for the mondeo there was an rs2000 4x4 ????
anyway mondeo would be more fun as rwd like the 3 series i think also it would be cheaper for ford to produce rwd rather than 4x4 they have a diff propshaft 2 drive shaft and transfer boxx less to build
even the fiesta st that they are to release this year could have used 4x4 cause if you tweak the engine from 180bhp youll get toooooooo frickin much for fwd
P.S I think that msport make 4x4 kits for focus they do them for the new fiesta for sure .....

This is why people dont buy performance fords anymore and have all converted to Audi or BMW. If you want a performance ford you have to buy american now.
Ford hasn't made a decent sports car since the Escort Cossie and the revamped GT.
And even then, I can get newer, faster, Japanese or German RWD or 4WD sports car for less than what a ECoss goes for now.

There's only so fast you can go on the road and the frs mk2 already has more performance than you can use on the public road. It's a proper hoot too, definitely a proper Rs.

I am not trying to remove any credit from the focus rs BUT have you seen it against competitor cars??? I mean you can only get so much from a fwd usually that s 200 bhp max but thanks to ford s clever front diff they increased it a bit but it gives torque steer and it s not as fun as a rwd car or 4x4 plus if you want to tweak the engine you have to convert to 4x4 or rwd yourslef otherwise you can only drag it or crash in the first corner youll find.
in my opinion FWD for performance is only good in small light cars that have a good power to weight with >200 bhp.
Now days if you want a proper sprots car you can t buy a ford too bad cause they tought us what a proper cheap rocket car is with the sierra cossie and the mk1 and 2 escorts where is that linage now ??? They used to do even mondeos in 4x4 and the sierra was a bit late still having rwd but now they DON T OFFER ANYTHI|NG LIKE THAT ANYMORE

There is market for an affordable rwd / 4wd sports car that can carry your family around too, but the focus is already one of the most selling cars in europe. According to top gear it sell an averege of 12 an hour??? (or so). So why bother trying to improve.......... and if the price is not right, for a few extra buck most people will go after an audi or a bmw. Most ford lovers like me won t but that s not enough reason for them to do it

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
Clarckson seemed to really rate the MKII Focus RS and commented on the grip and power from it...
Also seemed to have no problems letting the back step out massively whilst pursuing Hammond.
But I suppose he would say that because he isn't accustomed to 'proper' performance cars.......?
Yeah right.

Obviously there is a market somewhere if they build a 3.5 v6 ecoboost 4x4 Tauras SHO in america with a stock 350bhp! The aussies have got 300bhp rwd falcons up until this year, yet europe gets fuck all....apart from import models. You would think with this "one global ford" they would mix and match parts and shells around and give europe a mondeo st or rs with a 350bhp 3.5 v6 ecoboost 4x4!!!

Below is wrong, friend of mine has a mk2 frs with 440bhp and eibach springs and 20mm spacers
Handles better and pulls out of corners better, seems like the standard 300bhp hardly gets the diff working, trust me because I've got a standard one
Let some one come down some back roads near me on their 400+ hp 4wd or rwd cossies and watch me leave them for dead in a standard mk2 frs

Mark i m not sure lol i am not saying you are lying nor that the focus is a bad car but you are the first person i heard saying that the focus turns better that rwd or 4wd that s interesting but acceptable lol but i cant possibly imagine a 400 bhp one handle that good IM NOT SAYING IT CANT just hard to beleive.....
but apart from that rwd is more fun to drive and more prdictable in corners at least that s what i think
and if rwd and 4x4 weren t better why would all race cars (apart from touring) use those layouts
And i believe it s not a matter of market it s just a matter of profit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ford use just front wheel drive cause it s easier and cheaper for them to build that s all not beacuse they handle better or anything it s the same reason bmw has the 1 series rwd cause they only produce rwd boxes so they have a range of tried and tested boxes but in the case of ford it is fwd boxes and you do not have to be a genius to know that

well everyone keeps bangin on about they should be RWD or 4X4 is wrong IMO, how bouts all the FWD of yesteryear, the rs1600i, s1/s2 rst, frst? were these not proper sports cars or proper rs's then? i been in both mk1 and mk2 frs and been bloody impressed with both, all IMO of course

Agree with you there Mark,I had a spirited drive alongside my mates 400bhp mk2 while in my saph, also 400bhp,and coming out of corners on acceleration he could leave me standing, different story once the turbo gets fully wound up on the saph tho,it just reels him in,I think mk2 RS's are superb
