I remember that time too Stu.

Big uproar when it reached 50p per gallon.

My old fella used to go up the road, get to a set of lights where there were two stations, one straight over & one by turning left. These stations would always compete on price so he would decide at the last minute which one to go to

There was "talk" of it reaching a whole Ł1 per gallon

It was about 59.9 when I started driving and it never used to cost me more than Ł22 to fill the tank now I take the RS and it's often not far off Ł40

I might report Phoney Tony to the police for extortion

Paddy, it wasnt hay I was feeding it

I can remember 2, 3 & 4 star but the only prices I can remember was about 50p a litre. You could alos buy paraffin from them as well

Its a piss take to think were not far of Ł5 per gallon and hardly feck all has gone back into roads, etc

dont worry mate. Mike is so old he remembers paying to put petrol in his car, which he bought with a bag of gold coins, with horses and cattle etc. used to cost him a small bag of silver and a goat to fill her up

prior to that he just had to let his horses feed on grass and the occasional carrot to pull his cart along

I have never looked at the price of petrol personally

Right now, regular gas is about $2.00/gallon. Since there are 3.8 liters in a gallon, that makes it about $0.53/liter

With the exchange rate of $1.986/GBP, that would be.....

.2776 GBP/liter

I guess your taxes are WAY higher than ours and ours are outrageous

NO, I'm not joking

When the tax on the fuel is about the same amount as the fuel itself, something's seriously wrong.

You must be buying it from the wrong people or your government is giving it to you straight in the ass. My guess is that its the second one.

Not exactly.....

What you guys call a Series 2 (IIRC) is what we call an Escort GT. Ours are 1.6 and 1.8 liter mazda engines B6 and BP series NON-turbo engines, but the bodies look similar in silhouette. Ours are nothing amazing (ok, they're JUNK) and personally, I wouldn't own an RST either.

The 'standard' Escorts, are basically the same, all junk IMHO.

So basically, Escorts on this side of the pond are junk econoboxes

Probably best if we avoid the politics and religion subjects and stick to cars...
