I thought I'd google this and found this

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...9042157AAtfVxz

Keep in mind that doing this is also illegal for road use, since not having a catalytic converter increases your chances of your vehicle catching on fire.

As far as an answer to your question, I believe it is a 14 day fix it and bring it for inspection.

They'll never notice its missing. My RS 2000 (1996) passed our MOT 6 or 7 times in a row with a decat fitted. The emissions at idle were tiny even without a CAT. Our MOT is pretty strict too.

But how many of you lot have been pulled for not having a cat? What are the odds?

The last guy that did my MOT said even if its not got a cat and the emissions are ok he will still pass it as its not hurting anyone

Wouldnt think having a decat would be a problem until mot time but if it passes emissions then its no problem at all.

Its not a problem if your emissions are within limit, although very, very rare, some cars manage it occasionally, chances of getting caught without one are minimal, and as said, as far as i know, its a defect issue/14 day fix.

I got caught 3 times without a cat on my rs2k, 1st time I told the copper I bought it like it and he just told me to get a cat, 2nd time same copper told me "don't take the piss" and the 3rd time he told me "if I see it again without a cat he was going to seize it"
I sold the de cat and left the cat on, He pulled me over twice after the 3rd time just to make sure I hadn't put the de cat back on.
Not sure if he could seize it, I wasn't going to try it though.
I didn't get a fine, Just got told to sort it.
It was in 2004 if that makes any difference
It was very loud!

Providing you aren't excessively noisy they would be hard pressed to go looking.

Mot regs have changed, now any car that requires a FULL Cat test with a cat missing is a fail even if it passes the emission limits.

What I need to check is if the car passes the bet test (basic emission test) is it ok if the cat aint there.

Easy way round that, hollow the standard CAT out.

de catted cars will be very lucky to pass fast idle test. To be fair with MOT laws and further euro emissions coming in to play even tho they only effect newer cars. Its going to be increasingly more difficult to get a car through an MOT with out a cat..

The real probblem with the law would be if VOSA were out doing roadside stopo checks for roadworthyness and making sure cars ID's were in order as they often roll about on the floor checking stuff.

Exactly as he said, a de-cat isn't illegal in itself, rather it's the fact without it the car won't meet the emissions threshold, I diden't think the Police could do anything though, bar the case thats been stated above?

No as they were never fitted on any 2WD nor early 4x4's models, just like any other cars of the era, thats why we don't get an emission report at MOT time just so long as the CO is below a generic % your ok!

I think it is pre aug 1992 for no cats in uk mainland! that's what killed the cvh RST and why ford moved to the multi valve head!

Looking back on it, I would have pulled me over. It was too loud.
I didn't think I'd get caught for a de-cat but 3 times, I wasn't happy to say he least.
Maybe I was naive in thinking I'd get away with it, copper had it in for me after the 2nd time he pulled me.
Legal side; Not sure what would happen, more than likely just get told to fix it.

X2!! My old saxo vts passed a few times in a row with a decat pipe.

But emmissions test's have been a grey area of recent in northern ireland. My current saxo vts never got one done (back in june) and my friends saab 9-3 2.2tid also (last wednesday and its last mot). Supposedly this was due to complaints of mot tester's, as a handful of them fell ill (to excessive exposure to exhaust fumes.

And supposedly the mainland is getting the same set up as northern ireland!

doesnt matter as your wategate isnt open until it has to release excess boost, as if it was open all the time you have no boost and thecar would sound like its blowing badly

I've removed the cat from my TDCi and the rear box, on idle it smells like parrafin out the back but is fine on MOT's, i suppose it's cos they only have a smoke test on Diesel??

Not quite the same but my old car had a blowing exhaust when driving but sounded fine when revving at a stand still.

Got pulled for it being to loud so revved it for plod and it was quiet and he still gave me a producer

I got a 21 day ticket to fix it for mines when they were doing emission tests on a local road. "Fitted" my cat, got the ticket stamped, "unfitted" my cat and away I went.
