Default Building your own stage 1 RST gearbox...

Hi guys does anyone have any pictures/info on the above? as i have heard you can fit the bearings from a mk5 Escort to the LSD cvh gearbox?
From reading posts on here the difference between a CTS stage 1 box and standard RST box is uprated bearings?
I may be wrong, but would like someone in the know to correct me if i am, as its something id be interested in doing.

If so is it a hard job for someone whos pretty confident with the spanners? or should it be left to the pros?

Many Thanks Adam.

There's a thread on here somewhere iirc with step by step photos rebuilding one of these gearbox's.

If the search function wasn't so shit you might stand a chance of finding it!

Thats not a bad plan. I have an IB5 in mine which i reconditioned when i fitted my lsd. Good box, shit ratios! So puma gears may well be the way forwards.

Im in two minds about rebuilding it again with different ratios or just fitting an MTX75.

think so. i got a rebuilt escort mk6 diesel box from ebay. will put the gears from the puma when i get time.

if you have a zvh, think you can use a ib5 with the starter at the rear

Rob,
i'm thinking the same about a mtx thats why i'm going to try it with the diesel box and zetec lump first.

Mines from a mk6 diesel, every thing went together really well. I bought a recon kit from ebay (Ł99 i think) and its works really well, nice and smooth, good gearchange etc, im just paranoid about hard launches with sticky tyres at the pod this year....

Whilst the 1.7 Puma 1st and 2nd gears are very similair to the S2 RST 3rd 4th and 5th are closer and not really suitable for a FI car IMO (encourages wheelspin), my choice would be a non PAS 1.3 Ka gearset.

1.7 Puma
1st 3.15
2nd 1.93
3rd 1.41
4th 1.11
5th 0.88
FD 3.82

S2 RST
1st 3.15
2nd 1.91
3rd 1.28
4th 0.95
5th 0.76
FD 3.82

Ka 1.3 Non PAS
1st 3.154
2nd 1.926
3rd 1.281
4th 0.951
5th 0.756
FD 3.59
