we stay at the lidner hotels but for some reason this year really struggled to get in!
we drove to dover last year and went over on the ferry to dunkirk, but the trip from manchester is a long way to even get on the boat!

graceland is a good lad follow his advice! he's posted a few hotels earlier in the topic and helpful sites.
we have been the past 2 years now, nothing major to report just make sure you dont crash on the ring!! you need or at least supossed to take hi vis jackets, spare bulbs warning triangle etc euro breakdown cover. Insurance will be void on the ring so be careful!
here's a few vids of our last trip some laps and a ride in the ring taxi

yee i wouldnt mind a hotel or B&B but we will see. 1 other thing iv heard/read that cars can be inspected before going on the ring, does this actually happen? is there anything you need to be careful of, ie engine modifications?

you want to inspect your own car before taking it out there tho, it can be VERy brutal no the car, especially if you're new to the place (as you'll be braking and accelerating more than someone who knows it) and you simply CANNOT afford to have a breakdown out there.
not only will you have to pay to have your car recovered and repaired, you'll also have to pay for any damage you do, oil you drop, anyone that skids on your oil etc. etc.

Exactly what I want, although like I said, im quite happy with a couple of grand excess or whatever.
Basically im quite happy to go and drive the ring if its going to cost me 5K (say 3k for the car and 2k for an excess) if I crash, but not happy if its potentially able to cost me 50K if I crash.
The whole point in insurance to me, is to limit your liability, and none of those options do so.
Keith Michaels PLC on here say they will cover us for roughly the same annual cost she is paying now and will then offer ring cover for around 10% of the annual premium per day (so 70 quid a day on a 700 quid policy) with a 2K excess.
So with that, if we crash, the loss of the car will cover the excess as the cars value and the excess will basically net off, and then the full liability to third party will belong to the insurer, and that will only cost us around 210 quid for a 3 day trip.
That to me seems very fair.

Just to update this in case anyone finds this thread while searching in future, we now have our cover notes for our next trip to the ring and spa in a few weeks.

Such a relief to finally be properly covered for these sort of trips
