It's the time of year again where the 'Ring trip is being organised ![Big Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
I have found a weekend where the track is open for 3 days (nearly all other weekends are either open for saturday or sunday only and rarely both now) all day and is NOT on any sort of bank holiday so shouldn't be packed with locals who should be at work!
The plan is:
Wednesday 9th May - Depart Hull on the 2100 sailing to Rotterdam.
Thursday 10th May - Arrive Rotterdam at 0900approx and hit the road at around 0930-1000 after customs clearance etc.
Arrive at the hotel at around 1400ish after a steady 200 mile drive and do whatever.
Friday 11th, Saturday 12th, Sunday 13th - Track is open all day for these 3 days![Big Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
Monday 14th - Drive back to Rotterdam for the 2030 sailing, possibly swining in via Amsterdam if there is time
Tuesday 15th - Arrive in Hull at 0830 and be on the way home at around 0930 due to shit slow UK customs![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
Prices wise - The following is a rough estimate and will vary for the most depending on where you stay/what you do etc etc.
Ferry crossing - £238 per vehicle (add an extra tenner per person max of 4 per cabin and add an extra £44 per person for all meals on each crossing))
Hotel - Depending on where you stay but I would estimate anything between €20 and €35 a night so call it €120 for 4 nights as an average
Food/Drink - €40 a day will see you eat like a king and drink like a fish!
Fuel - Depends again on how many laps you do and what vehicle you have, I usually budget around £300-400 for fuel for the entire trip
Track time - This year it's expensive, single laps are $26, a ticket with 4 laps is €95 and then a ticket with 25 laps is €490 - I would guess that buying a 25 lap ticket would surfice most people, or could even be shared between 2 people![Big Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
Specialist insurance for your vehicle - Unsure about this one, Hopefully someone can point us in the right direction for a company that will cover a vehicle out there fully comprehensive?
Anything else - Spending money is obviously something extra so budget accordingly![Big Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
So that little lot comes in at around the £1300-£1400 mark without the specialist insurance.

its in abit of a sorry state tbh but im getting there now. havent had it on the road since it came to your place to be set up. made the mistake of taking the bodykit off and got the big surprise of rot. its ended up having both inner and complete outer sills, inner and outer rear arches, both rear chassis rails, new boot floor and new back panel. its cost me a bit in panels but its gonna be worth it in the long run i suppose. planning on converting to cossie management when its been painted. whats skyline running at mate?

Think thats a bit early in the year for me, we're planning on taking the mrs 172 over there and she doesnt change insurance company till later than that I think and her current one wont cover her there, and she'll lose a years no claims if she stops it early ![Sad](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif)
Sounds like a good set of dates though if the ring is fully open for 3 days, gutted I cant make it.
Might jump in with someone as passenger if we cant take our own car over.

If you can point me at a company that will give decent cover at the ring without you insuring the car through them that would be awesome mate.
Ive only been able to find stuff that requires vehicle inspections (would be gutted to get there and find it fails for a non TUV intake manifold or similar) and that has a ceiling on the payout, which is utterly pointless as the idea of insurance is to limit your liability to an excess not just to pay out a small chunk of the final payout if you get a 30K bill.

You seem to have put the wrong links up?
Can you just give me the links for these insurance companies you know of that will definately provide cover for a few days at the ring.
The basic facts are as far as I am aware (and this is what happened to me personally not 3rd hand info) :
German law means your insurance company WILL pay out for 3rd party
English law means they can then blacklist you for being in breach of the terms of the policy, and in fact if they have a specific exclusion they can then sue you for all their costs, not just the payment but their admin etc too.
As per this:
We're not personally happy with using the car there under those circumstances, we want actual insurance with a company who are happy to provide it, not try and twist a foreign law to get a payout that you then end up sued for over here.
I got a payout when I crashed there, but its been loads of grief and my mrs doesnt want all that aggro.

As per this:
A UK insurer must not exclude minimum level cover anywhere in an EU member state in a place where insurance is mandatory. Any clause in an insurance policy seeking to exclude mandatory cover is of no effect. The cover required by law is minimum level cover. Therefore, third party only. Your insurance policy will very likely contain a clause which says that if the insurer is obliged to meet a claim it otherwise would not pay then the insurer is entitled to reclaim the settlement from the driver.
In 2010, the UK Insurance Ombudsman made a final decision regarding a case concerning the Nurburgring Nordschleife. He found that the Nordschleife is a circuit with all the characteristics of a 'prepared course'. The insured's policy excluded use on a 'prepared course' which was held to be neither unfair or unreasonable given the increased risks associated with driving in such places. The insurer agreed to meet any third party liabilities but this did not mean that the driver was driving within the terms and conditions of his policy. The Ombudsman said that UK and European law requires insurers to provide a minimum of third party only cover even if their policyholders are using the insured vehicle in a manner which invalidates their own-damage cover. The German High Court has ruled that an insurer cannot escape third party liability during Touristenfahrten at Hockenheim. The same principle applies to the Nordschliefe.

I had a fairly good look through and couldnt see any links for any companies that dont have the sort of problems I mentioned above.
Not being arrogant at all, not sure why you would get that impression, im asking for your help and appreciate you giving the time to give it, but it just appeared to me perhaps you had given the wrong links, but maybe that is just me failing to understand them correctly, so if you could pull the company details out it would be very much appreciated.

Not too clued up but i'd say that doesn't sound too bad, if your current insurance doesn't cover you to drive the ring.

The dates I have psoted (11, 12 and 13th) are definately open all day for the track (subject to the usual closures for incidents etc) ![Big Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
I'm ready to hit the button to book everything once the hotellier gets back to me to confirm a reservation
