IIRC, that was caused by high sulphur in fuel reacting to the nikasil liners.

Yes thats correct mate, and hence wouldnt be an issue if you had the same block new today, as there is a lot less sulphur in fuels in general now.

I have to wonder if it is really worth chasing figures on a YB that require this level of spending? Yes it is fast, but ultimatly the reliability, durabilty & pleasure of driving such an engine is far outweighed by the cost?

If you apply the same logic, why even own an escos when for half the money you can have an evo thats a better car?

Of course its not worth it but is anything to do with modifying an outdated Ford . Is it reliable well mine did 6k miles before an inspection because of a tapping noise . Bearing wear on No. 1 & 4 so we are addressing that problem with a dry sump system.
Worth it !! hell No but who cares you have one shot at life. Im motivated by records not common sense ..
Is it a pleasure well come for a ride, you may shit your pants but i will have a grin from ear to ear it borders on unreal
Ive lived the majority of my life, you lads should have different priorities so to most it wont be sensible or cost effective.

Can liners be inserted into most engines? Block rigidity permitting?
