Default rs focus

Hi all,

Im looking at mk1 focus rs, how good would one of these be as a daily driver,

I do a 1500 miles a month, im sure fuel would be about the same as the 330 i drive

They seem so cheap for alot of car

Cheers Bryan

i used one as a daily driver for 3 years, they are great

around london (greater) with an 11 mile communte to work (mostly traffic) mine returned around 21mpg, on a run it would return closer to 26-30mpg on a bluefin remap

1500 miles would be around 5- 6 tanks with mixed driving so maybe Ł350-Ł400 a month on fuel

i wouldnt want to pay that!

Thinking of it now, they so cheap, need to get a test drive, never been in one

Fuel is similiar to what i put in the BM

I'ld wrap it in matt grey, with a silver carbon fibre effect roof

If you do get one mate let us know what you think to it - your opinion may help others in a similar dilemma.

Im considering buying one as they are well priced at min,and a whole lot of car for your money, and being an RS should hold its value better than most cars.

I was about a year ago Matt but the sale of my other house fell through closely followed by my ability to buy an RS Focus due to lack of funding. I think if i was in that position again it would be a toss up between the RS or an ST.

Love mine, it's not my daily but have done 12k or so in 18 months and it's reliable, goes well with a few mods (approx 300bhp) and with mixed motorway/normal driving i get 250-300miles to a tank of fuel.....as said standard cars are nothing special performance wise but will still handle well and simple bolt on mods liven them up nicely !
Ideal time to buy one too as they've dropped in price over the last 12 months.

no it dont sound shitty at all bud ! no i havnt mate but driven plenty and imo the frs mk1 the seating is to high the steering feels vaige the braking is a switch on or off I.E not much peddle feel but the st feels more planted better brakes like i say imo if it had a lsd it would be 100% better than a frs

I do know what your saying and I can see why this as always been a personal opinion to both lovers of the Rs and st... Bit like you said it's the shitty seating position and the rest that does it for me...I loved my FRS mk2 but it just seemed to user friendly like the st... Probably me just been weird but I like the Rs as I think it's a proper drivers car.. I just like cars that scare me...

thats why you like a 2wd cossie as it leans over your should when getting to a bend and whispers in ur ear im going to kill you

well im sort of fucked up in my taste matt lol i think ford are at there best when they mix it up like the kent engine in the mk2 escort and mk1 xr2 and the cossie head in the sierra /saff ect , i think the 5 cylinder volvo lump is just better drivability and the later focus drives better , the mk1 frs just feels a after thought by ford to get the rs badge out there

edited because ive had to much scotch and john smiths but itll be alright pmsl

That's exactly the way i'd describe my misses' Focus. It's a 1.6 Zetec on an 02 plate but all of the niggles that you have directed towards the RS are things that hers suffers from. The Focus always gets quite good reviews in the handling department but to be honest, i never have the same level of confidence when cornering in her car as i do in mine although i'm sure the handling in the RS is totally different to the handling in a 1.6 Zetec (at least i hope it's different lol).

One of the best drives that I've ever had was in a ~2003 MK1.5 Focus 1.8 that I had as a courtesy car while my car was in for warranty work... took it up past Inverness (crazy-good roads) to go see someone and it was absolutely amazing to drive on the twisty roads.

I really want a MK1 FRS at some point as a weekend toy, think they look absolutely fantastic and are that bit more special than the MK2 ST are... obviously, if funds allow, I'd likely consider a MK2 FRS as well but it would still be a difficult decision between them both for me.

Cheers,
Grant

Bought mine 3 weeks ago, its got a few subtle mods and you get some much car for what you pay, will be using mine daily as of feb aswell. Got around 260 miles to the tank out of mine which wasnt taking it easy all the time and thats without a remap aswell. Get one, you wont regret it

Everyone's different I suppose mate, but I agree about the seats, I think they're crap and really need replaced with something a little more supportive in a car like that.

Each to their own n all that but totally disagree on the vague steering bit, for a fwd car of its age i'd say the mk1frs feels anything but vague, what are you comparing it to?!
Can appreciate you preferring the newer focus's though, love the 5 pot sound
