Default Which car to sell???

Right i have 2 cars at the moment and its a bit OTT, next year my financial situation changes and i dont really need to run 2 cars, so one must go. insurance is a no brainer....so that has little bearing so i just need to decide between sensible and fun. got a baby on the way mid May so that has some bearing too...

right the 2 cars are

golf GTI 5 door 1.8T (90k)
pro's: comfy, 5 door, bulletproof, cheap spares, practical
cons: slow, boring

Focus RS mk1 110k
Pro's: brilliant drive, exciting, booooost, toy for trackdays and everyday car
cons: noisy, 3 door, some spares expensive, mileage high

now the golf would get me around £2k and the focus £6k. money which would come in useful and i would only have 1 insurance premium and one car to fill up. the focus does 230 miles to a tank, and the golf around 280 with my commute.

i just cant decide which one to be rid of, could get rid of both but i will struggle to sell the focus more than the golf as the market is saturated, its done 110k, although only 2 owners ever and FSH.

i am a gold member and this isnt a for sale ad, merely a forum for me to get others opinions on this

cheers guys

rory

Focus if it's a financially motivated decision as it will have the most positive impact on your finances. I dont know the car but if its done 110k miles and priced at 6K it wont exactly be a concours spec car and you can easily buy another one the same further down the line.

yeah my sensible hat is leaning towards that, but i have seen people really struggling to sell their focus' recently, i know i could just stick the golf on the bay and it will go for Circa £1500-2k, if i sell the focus in a rush and want another one in a few years i'll probably have to pay 7-9k for one.

mines a good'un (not mint) but has done me almost 4 years faultlessly so i'm quite attached to the old girl

I'm in a similar position to you mate,

I've an s1 and a 330 m sport convertible BMW

I fancy something more practical

won't get much for the s1 as it's half way through a resto so breaking it, money would come in handy,

But bm is reliable, well made, like you need to get rid of one

Good luck with your decision

You'd probably get a straight swap with the Frs for a decent ST, sell the Golf and tune the ST up lol!

Sorted

i was thinking this, i have always liked the ST, prefer the facelifted ones but that may involve upping the budget somewhat.....

good idea though, that or one of the 330/530 d sport bm's hmmmmmm

we'll see if it sells, if it doesn't I'll just move on the golf and start using the focus as a daily again

Its so much easier with a 5dr car with kids.

Sell both and buy something else.

I've got a 5 door ST and struggle to get all my baby gear in. The pram/changing bag/feeding gear etc takes up the whole boot so if your out doing shopping then it needs to go on back seat next to baby which isn't ideal really. Never underestimate how much crap you need to cart around with a baby

Am quite seriously considering selling mine now and getting a mk4 Mondeo, with the same 2.5 turbo engine. Huge boot and the same 5 pot noise, in Titanium X Sport trim they look quite nice too. They are coming down in price now to an affordable level for me so just seems like a no brainer really.

the reason i went to a 5 series estate is to help with the baby stuff.

my situation is different to yours as i've alrteady got 2 little ones so need mroe room than you, but unloading an estate vs unloading a golf, massive difference!

have you tried to get all the pram, carseat etc. in the back of the golf yet?

you may find the option of selling both is more appealing after you try

right been using the focus for the week to get to work and it puts a smile on my face everytime......so i think the golf will be going before the end of the month

in may i will review the practicality of the focus and probably end up buying a megane scenic and slipping away into parent obscurity!
