Default Only one side of quickclear screen working

I have a Focus MK2 (05 reg) and only the passenger side of my quickclear screen works. I have checked the fuses and they appear ok. The next thing I have been advised to check is the connection which is located underneath the scuttle panel. i have read somehwhere that if you remove the scuttle panel then you are more than likely to damage it (the way its built rather than ham fists) thus requiring a new one. Was that only on the MK1's or does MK2 have the same issue? Do you just remove the clips that are at the front of the panel or are there hidden ones somewhere? any other suggestions on this problem will be greatfully received.

Remove the clips on the front of the panel remove the wipers and the scuttle is clipped in to the bottom of the screen start at one side and lift.
Both mk1 & mk2 trims can be removed fairly easily without breaking them.

doyou mean mk2 as in facelift of the first shape focus or the altogether newer shape? if the latter it more than likely that the ribbon connector has got tangled around the wiper mechanism. it is possible to repair if it has snapped half way down..if its broke off from the edge of the glass then new screen needed. common problem on these, especially if its had a screen fitted prev as ive redone loads where the fitter hasnt routed the ribbons away from the wiper mech enough. scuttle panel is easy to remove although it will probably take the plastic guide off the glass, which will need pushing onto the glass before refitting scuttle. hth

wev had a few like this some time down to the fitter not puttin the terminals in the clips proper, is common for these screens to be faulty.

could also have had a repair done and the fitter has drilled in to the elements this could cause half of it to stop working.

X2

Check it is an original or genuine screen, might have had a mickey mouse job done on a refit, my mates mk2 RS had the same problem. Went back to Ford about it and and it was a replacement screen and not genuine so out of warranty, got it looked at by a fitter in town and it had burst terminals on it

Thanks guys, I have tomorrow off so might attempt to remove scuttle and check the connection. I have looked at the fuse and it looks fine to me. I dont see anything that suggests the windscreen has been replaced so I am hoping it is just a bad connection or something repairable.
On another note are there are accessories that can jazz up the dash (relatively cheaply) as its a bit all black plastic fantastic in there?

Got the same prob on my Saff, always assumed it was the screen that was knackered rather than wiring....?

make sure you seal the scuttle down properly otherwise water will seep into the pollen filter and into the passenger footwell

So i take it the issue with sealing the scuttle was a problem on the MK1's then? Doers that mean this has been addressed in the Mk2 and i dont have to worry about resealing it?

Default broken ribbon for quick clear

Ok i have now removed the scuttle and it seems the ribbon has snapped off at the connector. It looks like the ribbon comes from the windscrren then in to a black plastic square (i guess a connector) which then connects to the main terminal via a wire. The ribbon is broken right by this black plastic square, is there any way to replace or repair this? I would guess its only snapped off a few of mm from the end of the ribbon.

if there is enough ribbon to peel back the sleeve you could then reattach it (solder etc). if not then a new screen is needed.

I have the full length of ribbon minus the bit that has snapped inside the connector. How do you reconnect a ribbon with solder?

you need to peel back the orange sleeve to get to the metal. soldering isnt the best way as it doesnt get a very good grip but it works.. the key is to route it away from the wiper mech as this is the most likely cause why its snapped.
