Default T34 turbo's or bigger and 4x4 gearboxes

In the thread about T34 dyno results I see a lot of engines going near or over 400 bhp. I was wondering how many people are still running the standard MT75 4x4 with anything bigger than a T3.

So how much power do you have in combination with what 4x4 gearbox?

my mate runs 400bhp on standard gearbox.hes hardly ever done a mental launch though .. never needed to when hes racing it lol and i know of another saff that ran 420bhp on a standard gearbox. it blew the box after 6 months of abuse . dont do launches on it and it should be ok both were t34 cars . if you have a t4 then id run good amount of boost to make up for the lag and run a quickshift with a uprated box[jack it into gears and rev it up for it to boost ] otherwise i think a t34 car would be slight quicker untill a long stretch.. its just my opinion

Its not the amount of ponies that does the damage its the torque, anything more than 300 ft/lbs through a standard mt75 4x4 box and you're on borrowed time, saying that though it does have a lot to do with your driving style, watch the boost spikes particularly in 3rd gear

3rd gear is in the middle of the shafts, so when the shafts flex apart, 3rd gear moves more than the rest as it has more leverage to do so.

1st is actually pretty strong, relatively unusual to break them doing launches unless you really keep doing it or are starting with a box already very worn.

It looks nice, but I thought it was third gear AND second gear that used to fail, and not only third?

It depends on what turbo your using Ive blown standard boxes on T34's with big boost spikes , but also have used a standard box on a UT T38 as it doesnt make the same torque and power comes in smoother.

MK - The gears kit does look like a decent upgrade for a road car that does not want the noise of a straight cut kit, but it depends if it has been properly tested in a big powered car.
Mark get them hit up for a discount your car would be ideal as its a high profile build, going to be good power and will get used hard. Im sure they did Imsy a good deal on his straight cut kit for his fiesta as he used it on track and tested the kit.

tbh i did .. revved it and shot it off the lights popping and bangin . the gearbox didnt fail [YET] i think its because i have shit tyres so it spins up then grips in 2nd .it would fail i reckon if the tyres were grippy or at pod etc..its got a quaiffe atb diff btw i did it alot because i loved it popping loudly . but now i take it easy .. too dangerous mate

Another 3rd failure here.

Good stage 3 - around 340ft/lb.

I was told it was a new box when I got the car 10 years ago, and I've done about 30k since then. It managed a good few launches too

Can't moan

to be fair though andy, your car is pretty light!!

Ive murdered 2 boxes in 3 years, both 3rd gear after a torque spike!

it is a lot lighter than a sapph around 1100kg,s & i usually drop a gear & rag the shit out of it rather than use the torque.

Full throttle at low revs with high boost spike will kill 3rd. Keep them high in revs while shifting and they will last a lot longer. Done a lot of drag race for the past 15 years and never broke a gearbox.

MSD380 conversion on mine, unsure of what power, on the "box killer" t34.48, enough for it to do 12.4 though at pod.
3 years of utter grief and full bore (6k+) launches and its still sweet as a nut, no diffs, no box, nothing
avoid 3rd gear roll ons and they last alot longer.

What do you call low revs? Is doing 70 or 80 km/h in 3rd already high revs? 70 is about 3000 rpm... But I don't really understand what you mean by keeping it high in revs. Once you have the clutch up again it's at the revs it should be, and even if it's higher in the revs, the boost will still come in with quite a bang.
