Fuck that's not good... to be fair, they set my RS Turbo up many years ago after I'd been to RJM in Glenrothes and had a shit set up done when I'd got the car chipped by them. But after being to AVA it went like a train and was 100% reliable, it was other wee bits that failed on the car and annoyed me after that. ![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
I had heard that they weren't the greatest when they'd moved over to tuning Jap motors though.
Cheers,
Grant

Are we talking about the same AVA that was originally in Clydebank them move to near Glasgow airport.
If so, i didn't experience any problems when I used the. Didn't have an engine build just RR tunes over the years. they definitely knew their stuff. Would be sad to thing you were talking about them.

I wouldnt trust them. Took my evo7 there to get checked out after getting a rallie art ecu fitted they told me it was det and told to send it back. Phoned woodford garage to tell them what happend. They told me they have never heard of that happening before. They gave me russ that used to work at wallace he checked the car out and there wasnt any faults at all. So ive never been back. Also ive had problems with extreme at whitburn.

However for know aparant reason they seemed to go VERY low comp.
I agree that for a big power road engine low comp (around 7.2:1). Is the way forward but AVA decided that Euans engine had to be 6.3:1
![](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/shocked.gif)
which seems exessive given the power he was running.
I only noticed the the bad stories about them when he broke his saff aswell. After that nobody had anything good to say about them

I mind they had Scott's (black scoob on here I think) sti for years. He must have spent Ł50-60k with them for a engine that never ran, he ended up weighing it in for scrap. The car was sent down to Andrew Jeffrey Engineering where for Ł25k he got a engine with the power he was promised by AVA and it came with a warranty too.

Garages are always a hit or miss. This one sounds like it just misses though. I had a lot of bother with a new place that opened in Dundee recently. The mechanic who worked on my car was amazing. The boss is a fucking idiot though.

Good to hear Scott eventualy got the car he wanted, I mind talking ot him after all the problems with the second engine and he really was heart broken to the point where he was going to give up on cars all together.

I've no comment on Ava as a whole as not familiar with enough of their work, but as per a couple of posts above, Russ is a fantastic guy, really good knowledge and you know he'll always be totally honest with you.

They were good at fabricating things, Euans exhaust, aribox and intercooler were pretty special.
However for know aparant reason they seemed to go VERY low comp.

c0ssie9i6 who used to be on here (RIP) had his car there for 2 and a half years which was a long time, just for a rebuild with race internals. had 2 attempts at bringing it back home from there.
1 was a blocked valve i think and the other was a brand new t38 that blew up after a few miles on route. he flew up with his son and had to fly home again in the end.
it is ok now with .1 bhp shy of 400 bhp but that was due to a standard intercooler but now is changed to a rs500 jobby and aching to be tuned more on a rr and is still look after very well by his wife and local garage and the guys in the escos.com site.
Shame to hear about them being rubbish now as they made the first fastest saph from scotland, from the looks of it when i went there a few times with old skool know how.

That CR was madness, and the plenum seemed like a lot of money spent fabricating to end up with something relatively average that could have just been replaced with an off the shelf swedish one which would have done the same job or a small turbo escos one which no doubt would have been better.

would love to have seen the ignition table, it must have just had 40 everywhere with that CR! And still would have been a mile from det most places

Tom that did alot of the fab work at AVA was really good , the exhaust on euans car along with the plenum on mine and euans were very well made. Then all the one off parts made for Scotts scooby were a work of art , just a shame they would of been better left off the car .

Tbh i dont really feel sympathy for the guy having his car there for 5 years.. It was entirly up to him to let them keep it that long.. I would have long before taken them to court of they refused to fix the car. 5 years ffs

I used AVA in the past. You have to admit, the fabrication work is excellent. Timescales on the other hand, could probably use a bit of work....
![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
But all these cars that have exploded and taken 50000 years to complete, are always a bit different, a bit special... Not your usual run of the mill. A 1988 535i with over 400bhp at the wheels is not a quick 2 week in and out job. There will be issues as you find the weak areas of the engine. However, 5 years is taking the piss. But for all we know it took him that long to pay up! We don't know the whole story, and likely never will. Speculation isn't a good thing, and damages peoples livelyhoods.
My advice to everyone, is to buy an Evo. Everything is simpler with an Evo.

used them 4 times for basic setups, twice on my rst and twice on my 2wd cos,was only happy on the 1st rr setup on my rst.
i bought bits from euans car, after it clocking 188 mph it cracked the block or something,it got rebuilt after that but was never used in anger like that again.his words.
as for scottish tuners i wouldnt use any unless i was stuck.
