Default To Dump Valve Or Not To Dump Valve?

Well i have owned various turbo cars over the last few years and all have run DV's and tbh im fed up of the sound of the things now and prefer the quietness of not running one. Thing is their is soooo much speculation about the effects of this i.e turbo stall and whether it harms the turbo's life span. So i have created this thread to find peoples opinions on this. This is for a typical FRST or ERST setup of T3 running 15-18psi. Whats your thoughts?

This has probably be covered before but i think its a good thing to bring up now and again to see if opinions change.

absolutely unequivocally NO dump valve.
the sound of chatter is FAR better.
and dumpvalves are pretty gay. its not bad for your turbo to the point where youll start going through turbos. so no dumpvalve is definitely the way.

from what i read before u dont need a dump valve imo small powered cars but d.v's on high powered cars are more beneficial but im not sure if 100% needed. Then used to say if they werent needed why would they be fitted as standard? Dump valves are gay in my opinion

GT series turbos running decent boost do benefit from them. Stall is never a good thing for a turbo and just because it sounds good doesnt make it alright not to run something that is beneficial.

Certain turbo's and specs can run fine without them and it probably wont cause too much issue. But learn what the "chatter" actually is and decide for yourself.

yea thats true on GT series turbos, same as you wouldnt really run antilag on one. i just think hes better off without one. its always going to be a split difference in opinion

My fiesta with a T3 chatters well on full boost . Nice and quiet when you want it to be though which is good as the Bailey DV seemed to open it mouth what ever boost it was at, which is what made me take it off as it was always hissing away and makes you look like a prat lol. Jamie

At the pressures stated on a T3 then I cant see him being noticeably better off with or without one, its just a choice of which noise he prefers I suppose..... I used to have about 3 different valves and Id swap and change to with and without whenever I got bored on my Sapph

It can get bloody annoying sometimes. The one I run now has a fairly firm spring in it so it doesnt dump off until it sees something like 15psi.

On my efi s2 I don't run one.
My turbo is a stage 3 T3 running 1.6bar so...approx 23psi ish held.

I'm don't much care about the sound chatter or dump, obviously chatters currently. What I do care about is IF i'm potentially causing damage to the turbo.
Should I be running a DV at my higher boost level??

I would definately not fit a dump valve as I personally like the sound of a stalling turbo struggling to slow down on closed throttle, and I love the feel of a stalled turbo causing slower pickup in the next gear up, the turbo shaft, bearing and seal replacement bill blah blah... Just fit one. If you hate the sound of an atmo type then get a recirc but fit one if you want your car to perform
