Default seriously considering a track car

alright guys just thought id see what any of your thoughts on having a solely track based car as a 2nd vehicle are?

anyway as you might know i own a highly modded r5gtt which i wont mind taking a few few track days but tbh its my pride and joy and i wanna keep it mint.

the car iv been looking at for a starting point is a peugeot 306 gti 6 as they have a decent handling chassis and good revvy engine as standard.

obviously the car would be fully stripped and lightened where possible and the suspension and brakes upgraded along with a set of lightweight alloys prob pro race 1.2. id imagine that little lot above would make for a much improved and fun track toy without costing a fortune?

now like everyone the need for more power wouldnt take long to set in so a full exhaust system with 4-2-1 manifold and de cat with a good open cone induction kit located somewhere behind the front grille etc then to compliment that lot a remap which should bring it all together nicely again i dont think this lot would cost huge money and would improve the car to no end.

whenever the urge for more power come along then the big money would come into play

cam change ( iv seen catcams to a pair that have been proven to make 25bhp alone)
ported head
throttle bodies and stand alone ecu (ouch wallet takes a hit)

let me know what you guys think as its something i really wanna get into next year and especially get my hands dirty doing some of the work

I'd buy a track car already done, or a car from a race series like the fiesta championship. Already done, all the money lost already and ready to drive

Why have all the pain of doing it yourself and developing it and the financial hit unless you have plenty of cash to play with?

Also work out how often you'd actually use it on track and how much it would cost per session on fuel, tyres brakes etc then factor that into how much budget you have.

id love a 325i e30, strip it right out, lsd then just cold feed induction kit and maybe remove limiter and chip to hopefully 185 hp, would be a right hoot imo.

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3143070.htm

you can't beat the vct, its a much better torque curve and power from much lower down the rev range.

Has no one considered a 172-182? Great track cars strippe out, light good engine very revvy and pretty cheap nowadays.

buy a sliva stryker or something else cheap and light, far much more fun for your hard earned than a heavy road car

I built my own road legal track car using a seat Leon cupra. The car cost me Ł1000 and owes me about 5k all in now. But now I need more power.

172 has still gotta be the best shout for a track day hot hatch I should think.

My friend had a GTI-6 and I didn't think it was all that to be honest. Broke down weekly too. Perhaps it was just a bad one, but I certainly couldn't see what the hype was all about.

Have you got a budget in mind? You might be able to buy something partially done that you could upgrade, or buy something good from the off. However, I'm like you, I'd enjoy the fun of building it just as much as using it.

Still standard at the moment when I first started the car would not stop or go round a corner so I have spent 4k on coilovers/anti roll bars/wheels and tyres and brakes. Now that's all done I want alot more power. But As it is it's great fun.

there is no budget as such as it will be an ongoing project (i never really budget for anything) LOL.
my bro used to own a gti 6 a few years back and it was a bloody good car tbh went well, handled well and was super reliable was used everyday, we always used to say with a bit of money spent on the engine id imagine they would upset alot of stuff.

172 is a car thats in reserve as im obviously a fan of fast renaults.

best way to start mate no point having bags of power if you cant stop or go round corners

is yours a 180 or 210 version?

k04 conversion would work well get you to around 250ish bhp with remap

180 brake I'm just saving now so I can rebuild the engine with steel rods and forged pistons then I'm thinking of gt30 power.

Around 190-200 bhp.. The striker kits are available to buy mate... Easy conversion... These easily show a few big stuff up!
