Default Speeding ticket

Hi guys, received a letter this morning from the lease hire company stating that I have a speeding ticket for doing 68 in a 70 in a van. What fine/ points can I expect? First driving offence in 21 years of driving, do you think it will make much difference to my insurance?

Cheers Jason

It's a 60mph limit in a medium sized van, just I completely forgot and was keeping with the rest of the traffic

3 points and 60 fine... because its less than 70 they MIGHT offer you a speed awareness course..

I got done 72 on a dual carrigeway in a van, 2 years ago now. didnt get offered the course.

On dual carriageway, no. Only car derrived vans (so Corsa van, Fiesta van, Escort van) can do 70 where cars can do 70.

Interestingly, or not, the Connect (basically a Focus with a van shell) can only do 60 too.

So many people getting caught out by this

Surely its a grey area with the connects as they also do one with seats, is it the torneo, so should that not come under car derived

i've done the driver awareness scheme course... quite interesting actually. i got it for jumping a red light on a 50cc (not as dangerous as it sounds) i was on the line as it changed to red and it was torrential rain with a massive drain cover in the middle of the road just bad luck there was an unmarked 530 BMW behind me :/

i think you will find they changed the rules a little while ago, its now any van (not sure if pickups included) with a gross weight of 2 tonne+, so an escort 35/55 is car derived but i think a 75 gets cought, i think they had to change it cos basiclly a vw transporter is a passat chassis so technicly car derived, so they said anything over 2 ton is a van type van, anything under 2 ton is car derived, so check the chassis plate to see if GVW is 2000kg +/-

Crazy, so what about 4x4's like a Hummer ????

Are vans restricted due to extra load they may be carrying in the event of an accident
