I've been learning to program using Visual Basic Applications for various things that will make my work easier. To learn, it's always best to do something that is interesting to you, which work things generally aren't.
So to learn various VBA techniques, I've written a program to import an S8 map file into Excel and put it into map tables and graphics.
There's no real point to the program, although it does help you to visualise the maps better than the S8 software that has rather poor graphics at the moment.
I've written it as an Excel Add-In that once installed gives you an S8 menu item thus:
if you click on the import button, you then select which map file to import
and the map file is imported and looks like this
it is then divided up into the individual maps for ignition,
VE, injector duration, boost, warm up etc. and charted like this ignition map
and this injector duration map
in the future, i hope to be able to make changes in the excel maps, and then export these back to a compatible .SS8 map file.
if anyone wants a copy, post up your email addy, or if some kind soul would be able to host it (just 300kb)?

is it hard to reprogram to accept other data? Im thinking one program for pectel monitor logs.
it's all open source code and is totally full of comments to explain every step, so if you want to have a look and have a go yourself, just pm me your addy, or wait until it's hosted.
you could also send me a pectel log to look at, and i'll have a look at doing it for you. i would be quite interested in that.

foreigneRS, Cool !!
I have no problem with you doing this - No secrets are being given away !!!
However, the next version of software will encrypt the S8 files so make
the most of it !
Yes you are right, the graphics are limited but are better that most ecu packages.
There is a FULL windows version of the editor software coming very soon !
Have fun.

SECS I am not IT developer of anykind but formmy knowleddge NTcore windows versions do not use DOS anymore. They are fully 32-bit OSes, not like 16-bit DOS. They do have DOS-looking interface in their console. But if you remember more advanced DOS 5.0 + functions the Windows Console does not have them! There may be some parts of the code still shared with original DOS but the system core is completly different form Windows 9x & Millenium Ed.
