Default Scam??

Thinking of buying the missus a mk4 glf, looking to spend around 1500, might then by meslef a gt tdi!!

Anyway, see this for sale;

Looks a nice clean car, was on autotrader for £750

Tried ringing but no answer, but in the add it said if out of office hours then email, so i did and got this response;

Hello,

I still got the VW GOLF 1.9 TDi MATCH 2003 MOT BLACK IMMACULATE WMD for sale. The car is in excellent condition, garage kept and accident
free. The mileage is real and I never had any problems with the engine. The car looks and works just perfect. I
bought it from UK and it is still registered here. We live in the Northern part of United Kingdom, in a beautiful
sea-side city called Thurso.
We are a nice couple of pensioners (I have 64 and my beloved wife is 63 years old) and don't use the car so
often. We love to spend our time on the road but now we use to travel by plane, so a car is no more useful for
us. Also we sold our house and bought a big farm here in Thurso. If you are really interested we are ready to
make a trip to England and meet you personally. You can take the car for a test-drive and any kind of inspection.
Please tell us where do you live? I am sure that we will find a nice city in England to arrange a meeting, a
region acceptable for us and for you in the same time. We have the faith that this can be a good deal!

The last price it is : 750GBP

P.S. I appreciate if we can continue our conversation by e-mail. The mobile signal is poor here, we have to walk
over 2 miles for a good phone call.

Thank you

Surely it has to be a scam???

Sounds well dodgy and the way the e-mail is written it's strange, I bet if you arranged a meet someone will probably rob you of your money.

Can't see any scam in his email on the face of it but there is definitely some 'oddness' going on.

•*Thurso's not a city
•*Why would he say "In the Northern part of United Kingdom" and not say Scotland?
•*"We are a nice couple of pensioners" makes no sense, and implies it's not a UK resident typing. That's backed up by stuff like "but now we use to travel by plane, so a car is no more useful for us"...

I'd be suspicious. Maybe ask for a picture of the chassis number and see what he says.

I google earth'd Thurso, unless they have a runway in there back garden i cant see getting about very easy

Agreed Dan, to me it looks like a foriegner has typed it, "i have 64 and my beloved wife is 63"

The add has gone off Autotrader, and im sure it was down as a trader selling the car!! Plus it was saying it was 48 miles from my postcode, like fuck is Thurso 48 miles away

The email addres is marek54@live.com

Something is definately up, do people really fall for these scams??

Marek is a polish name, someone tryna make a quick raise, as with everything in life, if something seems too good to be true, then it usually is.

The whole non englishness of the language used makes me think scam. It was obviously written by a foreigner who doesn't have a clue how we speak proper like.

I replied to the guys email asking where and when he would like to meet!! That was literally all isad and got this back;

Hello,

Thank you for prompt response. As I told you the car is in perfect condition and has no technical problems. There are no visible scratches and no rust (corrosion). I like to keep my car in excellent condition so I don't think you will find anything wrong with it.
The car is registered in UK and has valid plate numbers. It comes with MOT and Road Tax ( valid till 12/2011). I have all the original papers including full service history.
As I already announced you we are in Thurso now (the car is here as well). If you are interested in a test-drive and a full inspection I am ready to meet you.

We can meet you next week Friday or Saturday morning in Birmigham. Let me know if you agree so I can start looking for a Hotel in the area.

Tempted to string him along

Why do people always assume the worst? This could be a straight up person trying to sell their car.

But it is a scam

as said, keep it going, most likely they will introduce at some point a set up where you need to hand over your monies or details prior to seeing the car.

But, could also be the 'meet with cash and we will rob you' but unlikely.

If it was the latter, it would be funny as fook to meet somewhere and have a dozen tooled up blokes waiting round the corner and beat the teeth out of the cunts.
