How come everyone here is into zoom lenses?
Prime lenses is where the real picture quality is....unless you want to carry all those heavy 2.8 zooms around..
My kit is:
Canon EOS 5D markII
Canon EF 50mm F/1.4 USM
Canon EF 85mm F/1.8 USM
Canon EF 135mm F/2.0L USM
Nikon 60mm F/2.8 macro
Canon Speedlite 430 EX II flash
It can take some incredible pictures this gear....
and i have NEVER been limited by 3,9 pics pr second either... and I shoot alot of pictures at trackdays and so on
Primes are relatively cheap compared to the IQ you get... and very light
And for street photography and holidays.. I use my Fuji X100... probably my favourite camera of all times

Tony do you have a monopod, if not investing in one is a good idea, much better than lugging a tripod around all day, and they come in carbon fibre .
Manfrotto is where it's at...

The point is... get a good prime lens instead of all these zoom lenses, you said it yourself that you mainly use the 18-55 lens.... and i think that most of your pictures are shot around the 30-35mm mark. So instead of using a crappy 18-55 lens that needs much light to get a decent picture... Get a good 35mm F/2.0 lens (canon EF 35mm F/2) or the Canon 35mm F/1.4L USM if you can afford it. The picture quality on those lenses are just awesome... and in the case of the Canon 35mm F/2.0 it's cheap and very light.
Primes also forces you to think a little bit more when shooting.
The 17-55 F/2.8 lens is a good performer.... but it is a big chunk of glass and the weight on a 600d body is just a bit to much for my liking, it is also a fair bit more of money that easily can be used elsewhere. You really don't need every mm in the lenses you know

cbp makes a good point, but has the advantage of a full frame sensor so can afford to crop images down if he can't get tight enough in the first place.

just won an efs 17-55mm IS usm f2.8
they fetch big money even second hand
the technical reviews I have read rate this lens very highly for the small frame cameras
cbp a 35mm ef lens wont give us small lens folk a focal length of 35mm

I have had the big zooms back in the days of film but after carrying a lens all day weighing almost 1 kg and realising i mostly used the 50mm setting i bought a 50mm and it has been my most used lens ever since.....
But everyone is different and have different preferances... but store the info in the back of your head and see what focal length you use most of the time..

assume the other is the efs 18-55 f3.5-5.6 IS cheap kit lens good alround performer
the ef 80 -200 you have does not get any good reviews
being an ef fitted to your small optical sensor camera your focal length of 80mm will be more like 120mm
here's a link that explains it all
http://www.the-digital-picture.com/C...op-Factor.aspx that will give you a head ache lol
