I looked into the 600D but the reviews said no point if you have a 500D so i went for that with a twin lense kit at the same price. Still does 1080p video and great photos. Just waiting to use it in anger and get some good photos.

I'm surprised your ex wife hasn't already claimed it if your getting a new one, just let her borrow that and sell me the 400 cheap. You are such a push over Tony, careful as women are evil and will take advantage. I look forward to seeing the 400 on eBay under your girlfriends username

I just fancy a bit of video as well and the screen as a view finder and then there's all these other technical functions I fancy too that I will never use
all I do on the 400 is switch it to auto twiddle the zoom and press the button and hey presto a top notch piccy

Unless you're properly into photography you won't really notice the difference in image quality, your cash would be better spent on the right lenses for the kind of photography you like, although you say you already have 4 so I'm presuming you've already got all the lenses you need!!

It kind of depends what you use the camera for really. There are some nice, useful lenses you've got (well worth selling on if you never use them) But IMO the lenses are more important than the actual camera body. Some of the monster lenses the snappers at work use can cost 5 figure sums!!

Have you not had a play around to see what does what?

apparently it's all in the lens and not the camera as you say
used the lenses in the past for certain specific tasks but for general day to day snap shots the ef-s 18 55 works a treat and I don't feel a prat lugging a big camera case around
to be honest at my age with failing eye sight even I think I look good in the mirror so no need for super expensive lenses for me well not for the camera lol

Unless you take it really seriously, the 400D is fine. If you really want to upgrade, i'd go for the 7D. its a fair wack more than the 600D though

My mate who is a photographer did that upgrade, his 7D makes my 400D look puny

just been reviewing the 7d, now that is a serious camera way beyond my abilities and certainly my needs
I have no complaints about my 400d's picture quality
only complaint is it takes fookin ages to download to the pc
can't justify the cost of the 7d for my needs and the fact I am too poor to own one these days thanks to evil x wives and tight arse poor cossie owners

I upgraded mine to the 7D as I needed the extra speed to shoot martial arts.
It is an amazing camera.

In my opinion Tony, unless your doing something that requires the extra camera power then I would upgrade the lens, not the body.

It totally depends what you want to do.
If you want to create images like this: (Showing a shallow depth of field)

Or this: (Shallow depth of field and shutter speed)

Or a night shot that requires tricky exposure times...

Then a phone camera simply wont cut it.

My equipment at the moment centers around a Canon 7D Body which i find more than adequate for my current skill level as its a fantastic camera by anyones standard.

I also have some sensible lenses such as the
Canon 50mm F1.8. (VII)
Canon 17-55 F2.8 IS
Canon 70 - 200mm F4 USM L.
Canon 70 - 300mm F4-5.6 IS ISM

I am upgrading slowly but surely as i go along. I have the 70-200F2.8 L IS on my Birthday list if your feeling generous Tony?

Looking at your len's id go for some new glass, read reviews and get some with a lower apature f2.8 being the highest. Ive just bought a Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 and its awsome ive also got a 50mm f1.8 and in low light its brilliant. I also have the kit lens 18-105 and that hardly see's my camera, looking at a sigma 18-55 f2.8 next and sell the 18-105. Glass is soooo important.

I'm sure westy is so much wiser now lol
the L suffix in the canon range adds a huge amount to the price of the lens
so we need to understand these suffix that each manufacture uses

I have no problem with my 400d I just fancy doing video with it so a 550d or 600d seem to be my options at my budget

Get some nice white L glass!!

Camera's such as the 40, 50 and 60D are worth looking into depending on the budget! Played with my friends 60D yesterday and got some very nice images for it! Another friends 7D is nice too but is a lot of cash!!

For most of the work we do the regulation 18-55 is fine. It's no good for tracking shots, or zoom work but for decent pics of cars it's fine.
