Default smoke on overun and idle

Hey guys, got a problem with a fiesta rs turbo.

Noticed it on way to Ford fair now got worse.

If i drive along its fine no smoke, then if I pull up it smokes blue at idle till I pull away again and it clears.

Also really bad if I go down a hill off throttle.

Already done valvestems so not that.

Help lol

Still boost up fine though. And no oil in cooler ? I'll chuck my spare on there. Cheers.

Let us know how you get on mate. I had very simlar symptoms with mine and was told it could be turbo. So just in the middle of rebuilding the head & putting on new turbo. Dont understand how the turbo would smoke whilst going down hill on overrun????

making boost is nothing to do with it, the problem is the seals leaking not the wheels having all the blades missing.

My fiesta does the exsact same thing.

Had my turbo rebuilt by turbocenter, and still does it.
Im thinking breather system, or valve seals or rings.

But my engine only has 5k miles on it since a total rebuild

Mine is undrivable now, big puff of smoke as you set of after and overun.

If you get to the bottem of it let me know

check your mei/mio filter (red and black valve type thing under the inlet mani) puts vacuum on the breather system to stop oil leaking into the exhaust from the turbo

Tony's told you the answer here

Have a look at a escort Rst oil return it drops straight out of the turbo into the sump. The fiesta Rst has a horizontal section in the pipe which causes the problem.

Weld a takeoff on to the sump and weld a pipe on the orig flange on the turbo return pipe or get one off eBay and join with oil resist hose.

ok i cured mine going on some of the info here.

Looks to be a breather problem
this box was drawing in alot of air from the filter side.

I tuck it out while the car was running, and smoke was pumping out of exhaust.
and connect it straight rocker cover. and smoke stopped.

Im picking up a new breather box tomorrow and see if it stays stopped.
Iv not driven it like this and im not sure if it will do more harm then good,
but the smoke stopped

aye, was only at idle.

On closer inspection of breather pot i found this, hard to spot unless you press it apart.

mines on a t3 so would assume it has a escort return pipe so no horizontal issue,

might look at the breather

doesnt seem to do it when its cold either ?>

Is it a erst block or a frst block? The oil drain is just above the sump join on the escort and it's diff on the fiesta

Have you turned the boost up? Mine was fine at STD boost but smoked when I turned it up to 15psi I changed the turbo was fine again turned it back to 15 and it smoked again. Did the mod and had no problem again.

STD boost. Need to have a proper look. Doubt it's boost related as only does it off boost and idle.

I got mine fixed. no smoke what so ever now.

I used a breather of an EFi xr3i, not exactly the same, but has done the job.
I ran it from 5k RPM down on over run and got now smoke.
Ran at idle no smoke.

So my prob was breather system.

Them breather box seam to have alot of internal workings, one way valves, pressure release for when on boost ect, so worth replacing, might fix your problem
