to cut through 18 mm mdf is easy mate. The cheapest jig saw or even a coping saw for a fiver will do. Try machine mart or screwfix for replacement blades. If your cutting a lot of mdf eg more than one parcell shelf get yourself a mask for 2quid too

i cut mdf every day so i need a mark. The dust is toxic if your exposed to it day in day out but a few parcell shelfs should be fine. Just get a pack of real cheap blades and throw them away when blunt. Mdf is just made of fibres and stuff so should cut through it easy. It will prob burn its way through instead of cutting it if u get a cheap jigsaw but it will do the job fine. Take the jigsaw into machine mart and show them and they'l sort u out no probs. Or screwfix as someone else suggested.
