Default using body filler.

not sure if this is the right section, sorry if it isnt.
before i spray my van i will have to fill the dents obv, some people have said to fut the filler over primer, then primer the filler.
some said to use a flap dink on grinder to bare metal it then filler then acid etch primer.
which id the best way ?
and what grade of sanding disks should i use with DA sander to sand down the filler ?

i just sanded the area with 80 grit to key it and get to the base coats/primer, then panel wipe, applied filler, sanded with 80 to get rid of excess and then wet sanded with 400 to smooth, then filler primer and sand with wet 400 and finally normal primer which i sanded with wet 600/800.

not had any problems yet.....

P.S. i allways use a block unless im sanding the old paint out of a dent

A block makes it easier to achieve a flat surface but you can still go to far if your not carefull.

I just used U-pol P38 easy sand lol, theres better stuff out there im sure but it worked fine for me

body filler should always be applied to bare metal, if you dont it wont bond correctly and you will struggle to get rid of the edge when painting,

buzz it back with 100/80 grit on a DA, then apply to the bare metal area after reducing the bulk of the dent out with a dolly if you can get at it,

always rubb down with a flat block, then etch prime and filler prime.

Bang on from James, the proper way to do it. I hate digging out repair jobs where people have fillered over old paint

try your local car parts factor, they sometimes have deals on DA pads,

A Dolly is just a shaped lump of metal, allows you to neatly dress the dent out with a shaped hammer using the dolly behind the panel.

cheeRS for the advice.
yeah, someone before me had just put filler over old paint and rust, so it cracked. so i diy it all out with a grinder and primed it for now, but im sick of having van with bits of paint and primer and rust etc. so finally going to do it properly. then maybe a fiberglass font end. arches, side skirts, back bumper. and spray it orange or yellow or maybe blue! :P
