Generally good cars that take the miles well. I would say correctly maintained it has plenty of life left. Give it a good test drive though to make sure it's running as it should and that everything works electronically etc.

Nope, all pretty straight forward stuff. Euro Carparts are cheap for service parts, especially if you have a trade account.

A lot of people service themselves but don't have VAGcom to turn the lights out. It will have one of three service displays oil, In 1 or In 2. Mine had teh lights on when I got it and that was 65,000 miles ago and is now on 146,000. Can't knock it, best car I've owned bar none.

Only thing to watch for really is the multi link suspension as the ball joints wear and really need to be done as a full set of 8 arms 2 upper and 2 lower on each side with additional drop links and TRE's. Without exception ALL pattern items are total fucking shit and you must replace with OE quality kit which leaves you with either Meyle or Lemforder. Regular oil chnages are a must as well as the engines are prone to sludging which block the pickup strainer and fucks the engine

Drive it. If it drives like a high miler, then walk away. If if drives mint, and feels tight then it's worth considering.

It all depends on what kind of life the car has led. You could get a 200K car that drives better than a 50K car if one has had the shit kicked out of it, and not been looked after properly.

The service lights on Audi's up to 2004 can be reset yourself using odometer button/ignition key, etc. Not sure of the sequence, but it is quite easy.

the auto gearboxes are proper wank on them so make sure its smooth and not notchy or jerky when pulling off or changing gears. The gearbox ECU is over a grand and then you have a approx 2.5k worth of gearbox on top too.

Not always, I've done 2 or 3 now and on each occasion the various suggested sequences did nothing and it required a reset with VAGcom

I think you'd be disappointed, personally the 1.8t is underpowered for the a6, and with that amount of miles i expect its lost a few bhp.

not sure if its a common problem but i've seen 3 recently with blocked strainers which caused the bottom end to sieze

Very true about the oil pick up tube from what I read it's to with the steamers using the wrong oil when servicing the cars when they were new and this caused slugging in the sump.

ive known the strainers on these to block with an engine flush as well so dont flush it

as mentioned above the front suspension needs checking too can run into hundreds of pounds replacing the front arms

and as also mentioned they aint the fastest of things, to be frank they feel pretty flat on boost to be fair

Good engines if looked after. dicko on here had an octavia vrs with the 1.8T, done something stupid like 220k miles, and it ran like a swiss watch. it had been very well serviced and looked after though.
