It is, but there's a lot of work gone into converting it. I'm sure a 500hp engine sold for about Ł3500 on here in last couple of weeks and even with monster brakes you're looking at Ł12k all in for a fecking rocket ship.

true but still if you had the skills which im sure myself and a couple of mates do, (few mates done the floor conversions and i myself am very competent welder and fabricator) i could build one myself finished and on the road for around the starting bid

I very much doubt the reason for the sale is cos martin needs the money, its prob a price where if it sells its a nice chunk of change and if it doesnt then oh well.
Plus theres the sentimental value lol

100% agree

I have thought about selling a few of my collection , but if i did i would do the same ,start at a high price then it stops the messers straight away , and if they dont sell then they stay , simple

If Martin started this at 1k he would have had no end of total skint messers ringing him offering him 2k to end the auction , and offering him there corsa 1.1 as a p/x , plus cash there way ,obviously

This car doesn't have a dodgy Sierra floor welded in, everything is fabricated... PROPERLY!!! There's much to get right when doing one of these conversions and this car is right everywhere.... THe Mondeo heater is in and works fine, the gear lever is in exactly the right place in the MOndeo centre console, the fuel filler is in the right place, all the Gauges work etc etc. It's making all the little things right at the end that takes time and makes a conversion nice not just being able to get the engine and drivetain in there.

In short it drove like a factory car, we get lots of converted cars in at work and I've never had one that doesn't want lots of stuff doing to make it a perfect car in either installation or the way it drives.. The Mondeo doesn't need any of that as all the hard work has been done years ago!

I only whacked it on egay just to see if I get any interest, if it doesn't sell then I'm not that bothered but finding the time to build an engine and then to use it is gonna be difficult.

No weak Sierra floor pan here....

I think its worth the money people expect all that development work for nothing. For one fleeting second i felt tempted.

It just needs 700+hp and I think it would be in the running..

Thanks I'm sort of hoping it doesn't sell actually! Problem I have is that now my 500 is on the road I'm using my Beemer less and if the Mondeo was to be on the drive too then the situation would get worse At least they'd all stay low mileage! I'd also like to buy this.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ex-Chris-Rea-Ferrari-400-/250848335823?_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI %26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D5%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clki d%3D1633094993438998239&_qi=RTM742988

Will be a shame if it sells really. Would like to see it back on the road.

Keep it and put something silly under the bonnet Martin!

I agree with massivewangers, put a tasty engine under the bonnet. Didn't you swap the turbo from the T67 thst was in the escort for a GT turbo, so maybe the T67 is lying around doing nothing, with a big space in the mondeo engine bay, hint hint

Loved this Mondeo when I saw it years back and again in Fast Car or Max Power at a Clarkson DVD shoot. Be a shame if it sells but I think it should be sold.

Why should Martin have all the really good cars? lucky bastard!!

Its worth the money to someone who wants a very well prepped mondeo shell ready for a cosworth engine, if you dont want that in your life then its just an expensive mondeo shell that looks a bit different underneath.

Cant see any serious buyer being put off by that asking price.

Block, head and cams, not exactly a 500hp engine

To build that back up to what it was would still cost a few quid.

Awesome sleeper though, be god to see it back together and being used ( whatever the spec is )

i sold an engine from my 3dr for 3k which was from a 500bhp car
then autronic (2nd hand) 1400
turbo 1000
and as said this is all second hand

ancilliarys 1500 by the time you get a decent cooler
mapping
transmission to cope and brakes

it would be more than 12k to buy and build but would be one hell of a car finished

mart think you should just drop a good stage 3 lump in there
nothing fancy then like you sat the 500 and bmw stay low milage and plus you have 1 more fat motor sitting there that can be used when ever (winter car maybe)
