Commonly done on the USA LIMA engine, some refer to them as a pinto "engine" as the LIMA,(a 2.3 version very similar to out pinto) engines are often found in the PINTO CAR, the PINTO car was available with a 2L OHC engine that we call the PINTO, hence the confusion.
It's a very effective conversion on the LIMA engine, same as found in MERKUR xr4ti.

Marv understands the Sweedes and other Scandanavians use a big Volvo sohc that the head is removed from and then a 16v head from a smaller motor and the two then fitted to produce a big 16 valve "axle breaker", supposed to be cheap and available and easy to fit into a rwd escort

they use the redblock, any 4 pot 2 or 2.1 or 2.3 litre from a volvo 240 740 or 940,then they fit the 16v head to it.

I believe it a lot of work to get the Volvo head to fit the 2.3ohc. Info here http://m.mustangforums.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=471824

yo dude Marv seems to remember a 2.7 or very close to that size capacity volvo motor in which the single cam head is removed and the 16v head from a much smaller volvo engine is used to produce around a 280 hp motor at scrap yard prices that will break axles for fun

your scandinavians fit more than just volvo engines to mk1 and 2 escorts though

biggest standard engine ive seen is 2.5 in the penta 16v boat engine, but there are stroker kits available.i think you can swap and change parts fromdifferent engines to increase capacity to about 2.6l. not doubting you,ive just never seen the engine you refer to. turbobricks.com is a good site for volvo engine goodness

Yo man,Marv seems to think it could of been a engine from a volvo 240 but stroked with penta marine line crank, rods from a Evo,Pistons from a roadbike ducati 996 4valve head from volvo 740 b234 engine, gearbox from the same car.

they are used in motorsport in the land of Sweeds

ah yeah,i know that way, thought you meant there was a 2.7 engine as standard out there, not using different rods etc.its a very good conversion, rsi also do stroker kits up to 2.8 iirc

4K would get you a complete 200 blocked YB + head work never mind just a head? 4K is proper 300bhp NA head territory.

What would you rather have an engine designed by Cosworth or something basically botched together?

well,i think its a good conversion, parts are cheap for the lima engine.

billett crank with carrillo rods and ross pistons are 1100£. 2,5-2.85 liters can rev 9000 with the 2,5 stroke
head from pyropete is 600£
complete engine ranger 2,5 250£
modification to block 100£
esslinger dry sump kit 1200£

im going too try making one. aim is 600 bhp with a lot of torque.
