If standard normal pump fuel is fine for it. I try to use Shell or Tesco as a mate said one of his jap crap mags did a test on quality and they were the 2 best supposedly I run mine most of the time on Tesco 99 or Shell V Power.

More power is easy enough through the likes of DreamScience, BlueFin, Code:Red etc for hand held units or for best results a custom map as the above are just generic for the ST not your ST if you get me? Hand held units are around £400-£500 I think.

Could you fit that yourself or isit best to get a tuner to do it?

A tuner will have to do the custom map (see this months Fast Ford's technical section by Stu Sanderson on ODB tuning) but if you by the hand held or laptop tuning platforms you can do it all your self.
Literally plug it in, press the button and job done. Remap in 5 mins. 50 bhp has been seen just from a remap.

I bought the DSCi tuning platform for my laptop. Its been great. http://www.dreamscience-automotive.c...l-products.php

Others prefer BlueFin etc. Down to personal choice really mate.

They are made to run on 95 ron. Our standard fuel is 97 aint it? So i would of thought that running normal pump fuel you will still be fine mate.

No expert so someone else may shed light on this.

I am getting about 24mpg with a mix of town and motorway driving. That was before the remap, its the same after the remap but that is because I have a few more 'foot to the floor' moments with the extra power. If I drive normally I am getting about 30 miles more per tank after the remap.

Best MPG I have had was a long motorway run. From Santa Pod to Liverpool at a steady 65/70mph and got 36 MPG.

I am looking to get one of these next year. Is there any clutch issues once mapped? I heard clutches slip after remap and the best option is the RS clutch. Thoughts?

It seems the trend is that cars made about 2006 have clutch issues once mapped. Some are fine some slip. Also a good idea to put in some RS plugs as well. Mine shit its self at any sort of hard use so upgraded to a full RS kit and not had an issue since.

The old clutch was fine when I pulled it out which was annoying.

Had mine for nearly 4 years with Dreamscience DSCi map, always ran it on BP, and for the 1st couple of years super unleaded until the price difference got too much.

Car felt better and slightly better on fuel with Super Unleaded.

Worst MPG was 25 and best was 33

Never had any clutch issues either, but the gearbox did shit itself instead

For some reason the clutch kit is cheaper as well.

I think there is a difference as mine ran loads better under boost with RS plugs. It felt like the traction control was kicking in big time with the ST plugs but ran great once changed

How much torque was going through the gear box?

And god knows how people don't get over 20 unless they are driving like a chav on fire in a Saxo!

I wouldn't go within a mile of cheap supermarket petrol, although it comes from the same place the branded stuff has all the additives in it.

Mine averages high 24 mpg too, mpg is much worse pootling about town than it is when on a good drive. I have just driven back from Surrey giving it some proper welmet all the way home, and I averaged 28.2, so not too bad!
