200 Block and a knock sensor !

Default 200 Block and a knock sensor !

I intend to use Omex 600 and 48 Jenvey's with wasted spark ignition on my 8v Pinto MKII RS2000

Engine uses a 200 4x4 Block

As per title does anyone run a knock sensor when fitting management with Turbo or Naturally Aspirated

If not why not (is there not a benefit) ?

If you do where on the block did you position it ?

Whilst engine running does your map go to limp mode and stay there if "knock" detected or does it reduce timing etc then resume map once "knock" has disappeared ?

you need a serious ecu to operate a det sensor properly

Hence the reason I asked does car go into limp mode or pick back up when knock gone

Omex 600 can run knock sensor but if it is only to "switch off" the map then is there a need to bother adding a knock sensor

I'm planning to run knock detection on a Vi-Pec ECU, and Mark seemed fine with that. I know for using det cans people tend to use one of the inlet manifold bolts on a YB (where it bolts to the head)

In my experience, to TRULY establish any accuracy within a knock sensor strategy, a sacrificial engine needs to basically be tested to destruction to examine the varying frequencies at which detonation occurs through the rev range. This sort of testing is normally reserved for OEM manufacture or race engine development.

If your engine is properly mapped within safe ignition limits and with use of air temperature based retard compensations etc. there should be no requirement for a knock sensor. If you have the option to run one and choose to, then it should be mounted to the block to detect the resonant frequencies and tightened to the correct torque. Most knock sensors rely on a piezo crystal movement to generate voltage so the correct torque is more critical than many give it credit for.

For what its worth, the 200 blocks do have a specific bolt hole for a knock sensor to be fitted to, it's lower down the block on the exhaust side. Knock sensors can be bought from Burton Power for around £50 each.

If I do go the KS route I was going to use a Ford KS off the 2.0 Zetec as it is easy to get hold of and also Omex seems to like Fords sensors, water temp, CPS, 1 bar atmo sensor etc

Personally i'd use the YB knock sensor in the 200 block knock sensor hole. Ford weren't as daft as we make them out to be when it came to designing blocks and sensors

You mention using a 1 bar atmo sensor? I assume you're intending to run the engine as speed density? Personally I tend to run all my NASP engines in Alpha-N, where they're mapped throttle angle against engine speed. I find this more effective on heavily ported heads as they tend not to create much depression/vacuum at idle and cruise. As such, in speed density format you tend not to get a particularly good resolution in terms of load. In Alpha-N you can simply set the throttle angle as the load.

Cozzy rods
94mm Accralites
Cylinder Head Developments Full Race head
BF63 Race Cam
2 1/2" Exhaust (lambda ready)
Twin 45 Webers
H + H Race Dizzy

On an Old Skool Sun roll down dyno it produced 215 at the flywheel

Jenveys and Omex are the latest tweaks in a long line of tweaks

Yes it does get used and abused on track
