Default Insuring and registering cars after R/LHD conversion

Bit of a random one this...

Was chatting to someone the other day about this. If you were to buy a car and convert it so the steering wheel was on the other side, how does this effect registering it? As I've seen a few people convert LHD Grp A shells to RHD and things.

Is it just as simple as changing the V5 like you would with an engine swap/colour change, and just telling the insurance it's been converted when you get covered?

Was just wondering if insurance stings you if you convert a car from left to right hand drive, or vice versa for that matter!

V.5 doesn't identify Left or Right hand drive.

Left hand drive versions in the U.K tend to be cheaper to insure as theft (twoc) is less likely.

If the conversion is done using all factory parts I can't see why the insurance would be any different to a factory built R-H-Drive, they may ask for an engineers report.

You know what insurers are like, as the rhd was not "made" by ford in the first place they may well view it as modified even though exactly the same as a original rhd one and load accordingly.

Yes that was my initial thought. Any excuse!

Was just wondering if anyone had any personal experience?
