Default fact or fiction or just plain stupidity

hi folks i was speaking to an old school quality mechanic. He said that while i was trying to turn the motor over if u spray a mist of petrol through the air pipe it should start the engine. Obviously after removing the air filter. The reason for asking is im trying to start my motor and its got old old fuel in so before i drain it is it worth doing the above? Its a cossie yb

it probably is true tbh. any flamible spray will work though but once its started it may well die again or not run right on the old fuel so pintless to even try anything like easy start!

it would more than lightly pool in the intercooler & if you got a spit back through the throttle body you could blow the shit out of it .
so to sum it up do not do it .

You answered your own question in the first post, old school. That would mean a carb Do you think it sounds like a good idea to pour petrol into your turbo which will then enter your intercooler?

if you were to spray a combustable mist into the inlet it would fire up if you had a spark at the plugs when you turn it over

we used to do this years and years ago

but modern cars won't quite work the same and spraying it into the turbo inlet would only cause you one of these

on start up (when he turbo is not used) and spraying a mist of petrol (easy start) you'd be best removing you boost pipe before the throttle body, that way you bypass the turbo and intercooler. its only old school because modern fuel injection systems are mapped to fuel correctly in cold start situations so its very rare when they do need it and its normally because something else is wrong. old fuel being one

I used to do this after rebuilds on mini engines if they were a git to start, a quick splash of fuel down the carbie usually did the trick although on one particularyl stubborn build we took off the inlet fanimold and squirted it straight into the head inlet ports. TBH I wouldnt squirt it into the air filter, but would take off the pipework from the throttle body and squirt it in there. Make sure your plugs aren't fouled first, if they are I take mine out, give them a wash in thinners and then dry them off and warm them up with a heat gun before sticking them back in still hot.

It's true, this is the purpose of "Easy Start" as it contains ethanol. However as said it's typically used on older carb fed motors where the mixture is "Drawn in" so to speak. On FI it's primed already so I can't see it would be much use.
