My E55 AMG has just been written off so I am looking to replace with a 530d. Seems like a good choice going by this thread. Any useful links to buyers guides, areas to look out for, spec/trim levels etc etc??

Well today i have done a few little jobs that Simon told me to do when he remapped it...

One was to clean out the EGR valve which i have done and it was full up with shit....will do the inlet at the weekend...
Also blocked it off and the car feels a little more responsive low down.....It just gets better.
Also went to BMW and ordered a new Crank case Breather as apprently the OE ones are dogshit and BMW superseeded them with a "Vortex" style one..... when thats in i will fit it....

Tiff

How difficult is it to clean the EGR valve?

The CCB, how much are they just out of curiosity?

put the later e60 vortex crank breather in aswell, all done in a couple of hours....

They are superb cars imho.....

I guess they can be tuned to whatever your budget is but the usual is a remap, followed by decat.....anymore and its gearbox/clutch upgrade time i would say..

anyone got any experience with the 535d. I have seen one for Ł10,800 with 80k on the clock. Performance figures seem bloody awesome for a big oil burning car. 240 bhp. 400+ lb/ft and 0-60 in 6.5 seconds! Are they still a 3 litre?

Yeah the x35d engined cars are still a 3.0 engine, but have a twin turbo set up... if your budget can stretch to one of those, then I'd go for that and slip a cheeky remap on that instead.

Edit: they are Auto-only though, so if you must have a manual, then you'll have no joy with the x35d models.

Cheers,
Grant

Haha I understand, I've just turned 28 and the thought of an auto is starting to appeal to me!!

I'd not have an issue buying one at that mileage if the history and condition checked out.

Cheers,

Tiff

Just been and picked mine up and its got an odd issue.

You ever leave it parked and when someone goes near it, it beeps like hell, but whenever the person moves away, it appears to stop?

Driving me mad as next door has two night owl cats which love sleeping on our drive.

Found it in the manual.

Press fob once to activate alarm, press twice to deactivate the internal sensor. Meant to be used in area's such as on a ferry etc when the motion sets it off. Appears the cats do too, disabled it, all OK.

Tiff, did you get all the power straight away, or did it take a few dozen miles of driving for the ECU to finnish learning and it kept getting quicker?

I've found when I remap the BMW diesels that you tend to get a decent increase straight away, but it then continues to rise as you drive it about for a while till it then levels out again.

rich, 10k seems top money for one, you can get some high mileage early E60s for that.

6k seems to be about the norm for a sport.

personally i'd want the sport as it looks SO much nicer than the SE. no visual differenced between it and the M5 apart from the exhausts afaik

Well I'm off to view a couple of 530d sports this afternoon.

Me either tbh but Scotland from the south is taking the mick a bit for a daily driver.

Done an overnighter though to get my 3dr but thats different. I'm not driving 8-9 hours to get out of a car and be disappointed and have to drive it back home.

Thread revival

Tiff, when you cleaned the EGR, is there a pipe that is a vacumn? How did you deal with that, or did you just remove it and leave it off?

Good revival. I managed to find a nice 530d Sport Aegean Individual in the end. Very pleased with it. will remove the swirl flaps, clean the egr and get it chipped as soon as I can.

Anyway, This link might help you:

http://home.tiscali.nl/luuk60/

the little black and blue hose that's connected to the EGR. it controls the EGR valve its a vacuum controlled valve that means if u disconnect the vacuum hose the EGR valve stops working (what I did is diconnect it) this means no dirty stuff will ever go thru my EGR or manifold. The EGR is meant to lower emissions from the exhaust by burning the exhaust gasses again. As im not a real envioronment freak and pay 300 euros in taxes every month(in Holland) I figure they can plant some tree's from the 300 euro, I care more for my car then the little more CO's in the air(bad man I am its ur own choice to do this or not!!!

Could you not have had the EGR deleted from the map?

ive been playing with my E46 320D, I`d guess its over 200bhp now, double de cat, EGR deleted, K+N, swirl flaps removed, and a custom map,

Im about to fit a front mounted larger intercooler and then tweek a tad more boost into the map, but it goes like hell now, pushes 140 in no time great fun for power sliding about with all the torque! only down side is it runs out of revs to quickly in the lower gears, and the power just stops if you hit the limiter

i had it at 85mph on cruise from Blackpool to London, and it returned 61.7 mpg aswell

you dont get what i mean

in a petrol car you can hang a car on the limiter sideways no problem, my M5 used to live there lol

in mine if i get sideways but run out of gear the power just stops, its far from a softcut limiter, i get all my grip back and slingshot across the road i dont think it helps that it does have lots of grip, and massive wide tyres tbh lol.

PMSL, no I did get what you meant!!

My old dear used to have an E46 330d and currently has an E92 320d, so I know the "oh shit" ... *slingshot* scenario very well mate.
