Default Air Conditioning regas failed - high pressure valve?

Hi all

I tried to have the air con on my 2000 reg MK1 Focus regassed last week. They filled it all up; however when they took the tube off the "high pressure" valve on the radiator, it all just poured (well, shot) out. I took a picture of the valve here: https://i.imgur.com/45MdV.jpg

I've done a bit of research on parts and was wondering if all I need is a valve cap, like this one: click here. Or do I need the valve to be looked at by a mechanic?

Please could somebody who knows help me out, as I'd really like to get the aircon working again!

Thanks everyone.

Sounds like the valve in the service port is fucked.

You'll need to get that replaced by a refrigerant/air-con engineer.

i would try that first seeing as though thats where the gas is escaping, probably the cheapest aswell. am i right in assuming the car filled with gas correctly then only leaked when the machine was removed?
edit. just re read post, yeah i guess it will be the valve

Ok no problem. Any idea what kind of companies will offer that service? I'm in the Lincoln area if it helps.

And the car took the recharge, then the gas escaped when the tube was removed. My question is will that part I linked to solve that issue?

Thanks for the reply.

It's not that part, the valve in the port is a Schraeder (sp?) valve, the same as tyre valves however you will have job finding a new one. I had a similar issue on a Kia and the customer had to buy the hose complete. Best to contact a proper Air Conditioning person as said

only one way to find out. by rights you should take it to someone qualified as there is different certificates for different parts of the system. ideally the system should be de-gassed then vacuumed before removing the valve, so someone with an aircon machine.. you could do it at home t save a few ££s as the vacuum is not totally essential..just beware in case a pocket of gas escapes in your face. good point above about the valve, good chance you will need the full pipe aswell

if the gas has all leaked out then you can simply unscrew the vavle and screw in a new one

but make sure that whoever does the refilling knows what they are doing as you have to weigh it in and do oil and vac it out and all sorts of stuff

Pretty sure on the ford systems it's a small sprung ball bearing that makes the seal instead of a schrader valve.

I dont work on car air con but i am in the air con game so i cannt tell you wot you have to do to solve this problem but you will need a PLT / pressure leak test to make shower all is good then it will need vacing out wich is done to get rid of the moisture wich all so makes room for the gas wich is a liquid

As said pretty sure it's a ball valve on that. Most modern stuff is, only older AC systems on cars tend to have a schraeder valve fitment. Chances are you will have to change the pipe.

Vacuuming out the system is essential, since the low vacuum boils off moisture in the system. Any moisure will just freeze as soon as it gets to the expansion valve and cause a blockage, aka problems. Might be idea to change the drier to save any future hassle...

Whoever regassed it, then lost the charge, should have the knowledge and parts to repair / replace the valve.

If they don't have that knowledge they shouldn't have attempted to recharge it.
Did they take money from you for the priveledge of not fixing it?

The link you put up is for a pressure switch not a valve cap.

Visit to a scrap yard or remove and try and clean.

I've just taken the valve out of my old focus A/c condenser and it is a ball and spring;

Different Ford but I bet it's the same problem;

I think I'll try to unscrew it and maybe replace with one from a scrappy. Failing that I'll try a new part. Thanks for all the help everyone.
