Zetec I would say, as for ps, did any mk3/4 come with ps ?, if not I'm sure a rack could be made to fit the car no problem.

zetec buy a full car for under 400 from ebay or simlar then you have all you need after transplant weigh in shell between 80 110 back for shell alone. dont just buy a lump or you will be back and forward to the breakers and cost you more in end

Buy a whole Mondeo 2 litre, drop the engine in and you'll have all the annoying bits as well as being able to break the rest of the car to recoup some costs.

Yes, some Mk4s did have power steering. It was a dealer option but carried out by a company called Steering Developments Ltd based in Hemel Hemstead.

the PS that was fitted to the mobility cars was cobbled together from various bits , i think the rack was part peugeot part ford welded together with custom pipework - not worth the hassle to DIY

your best bet is an electric power steering unit from a corsa welded into the steering column , this will give you fully adjustable assistance and with a quick rack fitted a 2.5 turn lock to lock

as for engines - zetecs near enough drop straight in , 1.6/1.8 are simple , 2.0's need a few bits swapping around . later escort td's and tdi's go in but they are far from refined or smooth !

Looking about there are a few mk4 xr3i's with pas maybe taking reg then going to motor factors for new?? Taking racks out of other cars and trying to fit them seems to much hassle, 1.8 ztec lump poss from a. Mk 5 xr3i 130 bhp version seems gd to me looking at posts on here, any good performance mods for this engine????

Custom shafts, had to move the break servo to drivers side. And knotch one chassis leg slightly but looks to be fitting quite nice so far
